I hope it is. From previous posts I've read it seems the trick is to get the zip started in the right place so you don't have to start again. Fingers crossed.

I have replaced a few rear windows now. I have found the easiest and cheapest way is to send your existing rear window away to have a new window sewn in. I found this way much easier to fit, when lining up the zips to begin with (the trickiest bit), if you are using the same zip you just need to make sure the ends are level. With a new window and zip the correct starting position can be different. Off the top of my head I think the replacement service is about £60, check on ebay.

Can't see any current listings on eBay but here is the company that I had mine done by,

www.convertiblewindscreen.co.uk

Although a US site he has an agent working in Hastings who does his UK work. Drop him an email.

Have you fitted it yet Alec?

Thanks for the link BTW. I ordered one as well and should be delivered today.

I've always resisted the urge to buy one to fit myself, but so many have done it now, it must be do-able.

Hi Steve, mine came in under 3 days. Very happy with quality. Unfortunately I have to do it outside so I`m waiting for the promise of a dry day which is looking like this thursday down here. Looked at all the videos and they make it look so easy but I`ve not been seduced by them. Fingers crossed it`ll be as simple as it looks. I`ll post here when it`s done. Good luck with yours.

Do we know current prices for a replacement window from BMW?

I still have my original hood and zipper. Hood’s in great condition so I’ll replace the window when it inevitably goes.

I’m currently more swayed by on OEM replacement tho. I know they can be a clusterf*ck to fit, so my thinking is it’s more likely to work with the proper BMW part. Thoughts?

DrWong, see how Steve and I get on with fitting ours. I would imagine OEM windows will have the same issue with starting the zip off in the right place. BMW instructions say you can have a tolerance of plus or minus one tooth on the zipper which implies there isn`t an exact starting point. I`ve not read any negative reviews on the ones we`ve bought and it looks good.

Good luck with fitting your windows. I did mine a few years ago (successfully). The only things I would recommend is to have an assistant at hand and take your time when zipping around the corners.

I've used STCS in Coventry a couple of times. Definitely recommended if it's not too far away from you as the price including fitting isn't far off the cost of the replacement screen linked.
