Hi, it’s been a while and my ‘02 Z3M roadster is now down under originally bought in 2022 from Barnsley. It has a remanufactured motor I believe exchanged in due to the rod bearing issues around 2007 and at 65k miles. The original engine had eight digits starting with ‘6’. My question if anybody can help me with understanding what is stamped on the block where the original 8 digit number is usually found has now numbers on Line 1; 32 6 S4 08A, line 2; 0150 A 065, Line 3;1100 0 304 353, Line 4; MADE IN GERMANY. I have googled it and understand the 1st, 3rd and 4th(obvious). The 2nd line puzzles me but I don’t think it is a substitute engine number. For official record purposes how do I identify the motor? If anybody out there can help me will be very much appreciated, many thanks….or is there an 8 digit number stamped somewhere else….

Look on the back of the engine above the gearbox, you'll likely need a small mirror, theres a big barcode with a load of numbers below it.

Line 3 is the part number for the full unit.
If you put it into real oem tells me its a remanfactured unit

Do you have any documentation related to the engine change and what dealership carried it out .
As they should have a record of that and then probably the engine number of that particular remanufactured unit .
if not an email to Bmw may bear fruits as again an M engine would be a special order engine so they may also be able to assist you.
Stephen.

Hi,
The car was bought new and serviced by BMW Leicester Sytner in Leicestershire and I did reach out to them via email but they were not forthcoming. I told them a bit of the history of the car and that around 2007 and 65k miles the engine had been changed over by them. I have a lot of receipts from Sytner BMW dating back to when the car was bought and the services done right through in date order, however in 2007 there is no evidence of the engine changeover except a receipt for simply ‘an oil change’. I was also told that BMW in rectifying the Z3M S54’s with the rod bearing problem did not want to advertise this as to protect its product. Leicester Sytner simply replied that they did not hold records going back that far and could not assist me. I absolutely do not believe that. I have not tried BMW in general and that is my next adventure. Thanks for all the info.
