So do I - but I couldn't drink a whole gallonI love injector cleaner
So why is the oil not getting to temp? It's obviously a contribution to the high emissions. @Lee any ideas? And the probe worked fine on three diesel cars today . . . . .
So, b*****ed if I know what happened Dave.

I'm at a loss with it Ant. Tonys at a loss with it! It's obviously ran like it for years but I'll be b*******. Any suggestions to what it could be are very welcome. The plot thickens .......
If I recall Brian it was 70 ish. Tony may remember as he was using the probe. The oil and filter were changed just 12 months ago and have done around 3000 miles. It has been up on emissions for 4 or 5 years tho so must be more under lying than that?If the oil is 90 deg at the filter could this mean the filter or the housing is blocking up not allowing oil to flow freely. This could stop the valves opening fully so less oxygen and incomplete combustion and hence high CO readings?
TOTO? (turn off, turn on)And the probe worked fine on three diesel cars today . . . . .

Not unless there is some restriction within the filter housing itself which could have been there for a while, DaveIf I recall Brian it was 70 ish. Tony may remember as he was using the probe. Just trying to eliminate possible causes however unlikely. Have seen many an engineer (and groups of engineers inadvertently leading each other) overlook the blindingly obvious because they're looking for what they expect to see. We all do it.Its a long flexible probe Tony measured it to the same length as the dipstick and inserted it in place of the dipstick.
If its worked fine on 3 cars today its working correctly and being used in the same manner....
It's weird for sure. I don't claim to have a clue what's causing these issues. The car runs superbly and fuel seems fine although I've never ran another to compare. While on the euro trip I fuelled at the same intervals and mileage as @Mint who has a 2.2, mine is a 2.8 and the refills were within a couple of litres everytime in his favour but that would be accountable by the engine size.Just trying to eliminate possible causes however unlikely. When you find out the real cause you look a right ar$e.
Am sure all the oil would settle down to a mean temperature at around the water temp or higher. 70 or 50 degrees sems way too low. It's becoming a mystery....
That's a good point Lee.Thanks for contacting Zed shed HQ
First thoughts.
*Oil quality?
*vicous fan stuck on (too much cooling)
*thermostat passing (cooling the engine)
All I can think of off the cuff.
