For comparison to explain what Andy means, mine is carpeted and more visible.

Something has just occurred to me, looking at the two pictures, which I was scratching my head over for ages.

I never understood why my hole for the gear lever had to be so much larger than your one. Now it makes sense....your front tunnel cover sits miles lower than mine, so the gear lever travels further in comparison on mine.
