Not Z3 related, but my daughter has a Skoda Citigo, her rear view mirror has fallen off
We have tried double sided sticky tape. We have contacted Skoda and Auto Windscreens, but not getting anywhere with regards to what is the best thing to use to restick the rear view back on.
We have used normal double sided sticky tape and we have used a product from Halfords , but it keeps falling off.
Has anybody got any advice as the best thing to use to stick a rear view mirror back on?

Loctite do an adhesive to bond metal to glass. Remove the metal pad the mirror fit onto and glue it to the screen. Leave for 1 day and affix the mirror to the pad.

What Tony says. Bear in mind that this time of year you need to make sure there’s absolutely no condensation on the glass before you apply the glue. Even from your breath. Gently heat with a hot air gun, or even, dare I say it, a hair drier….

……possibly the only time a hairdressing product should be allowed anywhere near a Z3. We know how rumours start…😄

My Rear view mirror has come off a long time ago. Since then I have to regularly (every month) glue it back to the windscreen. I assume the glue I am using is not up to the job (technicoll rear view mirror glue).

1) Please recommend me a glue that will create lasting bond between windscreen and the mirror

2) why is there a cable connection for my mirror if it doesn't have the auto dimmer or alarm (i don't think my z3 has alarm)

Patient: 2000 BMW Z3 1.8 (1.9 actually)

There’s a specific adhesive available now, comes as a mesh you affix to the window, an activator you spread on the mirror base. I can’t remember what it’s called, but I’ve used it a few times. Google will bring it up.
As Tony said in the post a few above, it’s best left a day to fully cure. I also cleaned the inside of the screen with 800 paper in that area. Masking it with tape, then you can’t end up with a mess.

I think the cable connection is for remote locking

Any chance you could recall the name of that glue that comes with a mesh part?

Pretty sure it’s LOCTITE 319, the instructions have to be followed exactly, but it certainly worked. The windscreen guy who gave it to me did recommend using 800 paper on the screen to ensure it was clean and give a better grip. I did the same on the metal as previous owner had at least one go at the mirror. Whatever glue had stuck to the metal, but not the glass.
Press the metal on hard and leave it overnight. That mirror was still there 200K later.

Any wires can also be for dim/dip if the mirror has that function.
