While the guys were outside starting on Vixen I was pulling bits off the engine and generally giving it a clean. Found a very crispy rocker cover gasket that fell apart as I touched it along with so much mud and bits of tree.

Quite dirty needing a clean up.

Not amazing but better.

Good to see she's been serviced well over the years. Very clean top end.

Even gave the diff a clean up.

We only spent a few hours in the garage today as everyone had afternoon plans. I placed the order for the ECU and rocker cover bits along with some racing engine mounts.

If we had a donor car it would be a doddle mate.

What would be the ideal donor car? I guess if it was an S50B32 pre-facelift would be better as they are cable throttle - or if it was a facelift car an S54b32 would be better in terms of electronics and being able to reuse things like drive by wire throttles, ABS modules etc? ...

Engines are around 3 to 4k on eBay..

I see so many threads with people doing engine swaps with the S50 and S54 so I’m guessing there’s the kit out there to cater for it.

That's what I was thinking there's a video of it and a compresión test, looks like a terrific option comes with ecus etc .. I have a donor car, I only need 3k and a slot in the shed ;)

If i was at the beginning of deciding what to do I would consider this.

The plan is to see how well this goes, if she likes it I might then mix it up and go down the M62 4.4 V8 route a year or two later.

So far I've found this job very easy so fingers crossed it pans out because this might well be the start of something.
