Now Dads preface 2.8 has gone we turnt our attention to his new TU. A really nice unmolested 2.8 TU with 117,000 on the clock and lots of extras. But with every unmolested Z3 the running gear is very tired, this zed was covered in braces and fancy bolt ones.

First up was the electrical issues which was an easy fix for a change, a dead alternator which smelt so bad. Also the throttle cable was so tight it was a workout to press. So two nice easy fixes to start. She really is clean.

Next was removing all the braces.

So this brings us up to today, we pulled the dash out to fix the lifted extended leather, also to fit new foam in the passenger/drivers seat, both bits are going to a local upholsterer.

The order went in today for the rest of the running gear. Quite alot of what I need I have in stock but this should keep me busy for a day or two.

was it just the passenger airbag side needed leather sorting or did the dashboard pod need fixing too ?

My 1.9 has peeling leather on dash and passenger airbag side but not as bad as yours is pictured be interensted to know what costs for repairing the leather

The dash leather has gone over the passenger airbag as seen and on the binnacle aswell as the base around the binnicle. Our local upholsterer said this was an easy fix so we've also given him both seats to refresh. Will be back with finished results and costs. Be nice to offer this as an extra service in the shed.

Have you got the ream beam out as well yet? Looks like you haven't had a busy day taking that out. I thought it would have had a full rebuild already ;)

Nice looking zed, look forward to seeing what engine mods and other bits and pieces this gets.

Just caught up on what your up to. Trev’s 2.8 looks real nice and deserves some of the real maintenance your giving it. Would’ve cost the previous owner a fortune to have that done anywhere. Nice your doing it for family for a change. Can’t wait to have a good look. Is the ind/mani swap on the cards for this one.

This one we'll be keeping stock with the normal enhancements we all do. I'm quite a fan of this engine and will drop another in my zed in the coming weeks.

We dropped the interior bits off to the guy locally. We then realised he's right next to the Z3 Kit car guys, so we now have some new close friends.

Finally everything arrived. I decided to escape the house yesterday and make a start up front, I removed everything and the only things being kept are the hubs which are in great condition. I'll let the pictures do the talking. Worth mentioning we now have a local powder coaters so the roll bars and all the running gear will be heading off for coating this weekend, for those who would like to know costs just send me a PM.

This is the whole front end laid out, cool to see it all.

For a change the sports springs were in great condition.

The old shocks are still in good condition so if anyone wants them send me a PM

One thing I picked up on was the suspension kit that arrived, the top mounts were a brand called Hart and housed a really smart sealed bearing design, much better setup compared to the roller bearing design, essentially less play.

The front end is nearly done just need the freshly coated belly brace and roll bar to go back on.

Going to be as good as new soon Lee. I do like the leather work, very nice job. Oh, and nice to see some of my handy work being put to good use (3rd. pic) :)

Tony.
