Don't think so, the article was dated early February so I'm guessing another money making scheme.

I wouldn't mind if we had good roads to speed on. They take so much money from the motorist but will not spend nearly enough to repair the roads properly.

They will soon be able to run the country on the receipt from motoring fines and do away with income tax.

Firms producing speed camera detector units will again flourish. This adds more distraction to the driver, especially those who have difficulty with multiple inputs (women should be OK). If you drive according to the conditions (sometimes 5mph outside a school rather than the posted 30mph but say 85mph on a clear motorway) all should be well. Bests order a new detector (bugger, just remembered it will attract 20% VAT).

Time for some perspective.

It's really simple - it's you that controls your right foot. The limit is clear. The consequences are clear.
Anybody who gets caught doing over 100 deserves what they get. Don't blame anyone else. Don't whinge fines have gone up.
Driving at speeds higher than conditions allow for the safety of others then you need to be parted from your money.

Anybody who has been unfortunate to knock somebody over in a 30 limit will understand why we have a 30 limit and why it should be enforced - rigorously. Pedestrians don't survive above that. Having had two girls step out without warning just feet in front of my car when I was doing 20 I can tell you exactly why anybody doing more than 35 should get a decent fine. The limit isn't there just to slow you down, it isn't there to get more money - it's there to stop people doing stupid things because they are selfish. I see drivers doing 70 in a 30 limit every morning. Rank stupidity. And this is on a road that's seen more than 10 killed and numerous serious accidents. All to save 20 seconds!!!

Using the roads isn't a right it's a privilege - for the sake of your children and your children's children, use it sensibly. If you're prepared to literally clean someone up off the bonnet of your car, then feel free to drive like a moron. The rest of us don't need you. The fines are there just for you.

The rest of us will be fine and will enjoy our cars.

Much of the money goes on providing people to clean up the consequences of speeding and aggressive or careless driving. Accidents cost tens of thousands upwards. Each major motorway incident also costs people and businesses hundreds of thousands. Frequently because of some moron with a heavy right foot.

Redline doesn't seem to get it. Its all about appropriate speed for the circumstances. The MG motto "Safety Fast" sums up well.

It's not about appropriate speed for the circumstances. This is a straight issue as far as the law is concerned. Black and white.

People are complaining about the speeding fines.
The speeding fines are wrt to the law on speed limits and nothing else. Driving at the wrong speed or inappropriate for the circumstances is a different offence if an offence at all.

The speed limit is the fastest you can go without being penalised even if it's safe to do so. That's not an opinion. It's fact. I could probably safely do over 100 on the 30 limit by us at 3am. It's still 30mph. It used to be 50 then 40 and now 30. It will be 20 soon. People think they can drive far more quickly because it's a wide boulevard type road.
Just because it's safe to do over the limit doesn't allow you or give you authority to do so. It's that simple in the eyes of the law. The fact that you can and 'safely' is your choice.
If you do and get caught - take the fine. Just like I will.
Driving at an appropriate speed within the limit is a different kettle of fish and far more subjective.

Glad I didn't disappoint you Lee? :D

Its also time they enforced fines for motorists who are a danger to other drivers by causing massive tail backs by doing 30/40 in a 60 limit. If drivers can not drive to the limit then they should have their licence revoked. I do around 30 to 40k per annum just in the works car and the amount of drivers i see doing 50 on M- Ways is staggering these drivers cause all sorts of problems for the drivers who do actually believe in driving to the correct limit. I have over taken thousands of drivers on normal roads and M-Ways without even breaking the speed limit. I do not speed through villages, towns and cities and drive at around 80mph on Motorways but these drivers have nearly written me off not the speeding drivers

if you want to save peoples lives have traffic light crossings

Entirely agree with the sentiment, but sadly, rightly or wrongly there is no minimum speed limit. The police will pull drivers up for it though.
In those circumstances it's the choice of one driver against the choice of another. The fact that they don't comprehend that their choice puts them in greater danger is something they don't and won't understand. All we can do is watch out for them and drive accordingly.

Lorries unnecessarily crawling past others are a bigger cause of tailbacks and then angry speeding drivers.

This topic always makes a good debate. So @katkwak if we were to make it limitless do you realise what that will do. I know for a fact quite a few members on here have got caught speeding in the last few years, but its never silly speeds more a lapse in concentration or driving down roads they've never been down before. Not everyone has that much spare cash flow.
