You're doing a grand job mate. I've been labouring for our Gary, but, he is replacing double glazed units at home. And we had to feed him !!

Just only noticed this thread and read it all, great team work and it going to be A ok. Just what the Z needed. As for the colour of the new exhaust I think that’s the best mod yet.!!!!!!

This is a cracking looking job. Coming along very nicely. Keep updating please. It’s fascinating to read and see the progress being made. Your Z will have a very nice home.Been pretty busy recently. After a lot of heavy rain we got some hardcore down on the garage base and got it compacted down, it was a bit sloppy in places but it soon dried up nicely after a week or so of better weather.

We then got some more hardcore for the patio area and whacked this down so it was nice and solid. A lot of the soil I used to level it up was removed again as it was just too mushy so we filled this with harcore and it is now much better.

The garage base was now ready for the concrete slab, we put a pipe in for the concrete to be poured around to allow the electrics to be buried in the ground upto it and then through the base into the garage. Also a layer of damp proof membrane was put down for the slap to be poured onto.

One of the few things we have never done and didn't fancy doing as it was a job that needed doing properly was pouring and smoothing out the concrete for the floor. So I had a few quotes for people to do it for me and in the end I ordered the concrete myself pre mixed and had a couple of guys do the labour. By the time we had bought wellies and hired tools to rake and level the base also it worked out cheaper to get someone to do it and it would save us trying to learn on such a big area.

Between the edge of the drive and the garage will be gravelled to help with drainage and should leave a nice area to wash the cars. There is an inspection chamber which will sit too low so this has been raised up. I also put a new downpipe on the conservatory leading into a drain and pipe directly to the inspection chamber. Before the downpipe was just sunk into the mud, meaning the water just soaked into the ground which was useless. The spare offcut of drainage was used on the other side with some holes drilled in the top half for another soak away.

A trench has been dug for the amoured cable which will supply electric to the garage. The cable will run alongside the soak away pipe that was already in place.

The shuttering has been removed, most of the edges packed up ready for some gravel to go around and the base has had 3 coats of sealant.

Got the front frames made a few days ago.
I got most of the cladding done, then I made the finishing frame work to cover the frame which will be between the garage door and front of the garage. I cut down some cladding and butted the chamfered edge of it up to the finishing strip on the front so it looks nice and neat. This was done both sides and above the opening. .
All the frame work was then bolted to the slab.
@gookah came round on Friday to help finish the roof frame. 2 each end and 5 in the middle. There was a little mishap with one of the middle beams and as I only ordered the exact amount of these he only managed to get 4 them made. A trip to Wickes the following morning to pick up a new beam. The only trouble being I needed a 3.6M length, which could have been a pain to get home in any normal car but not a zed
Luckily it's half a mile away, but I made sure it was all strapped in safely.
Saturday evening we had all the roof frame made, up in place and nice and solid. We have covered it temporarily with some plastic sheeting so at least if it rains we can work in there. The roof sheets will hopefully be here by Friday. All that's left to do now is to clad the apex front and rear which I'll get done in the next few days.

No plans to do it straight away but maybe in the future. I will see how much I'm using it in winter to work in and see how cold it gets.

A great project. I have enjoyed reading this. I have my carport to build when i get back from Spain, at least i have 2 weeks extra off when i get back now thanks to the Government

Class effort that! I find it real easy to build out of wood but the fine finished i can never get.. you look like you've got it down

I thought that looked a little better with just that finishing strip. But I have a few lengths of cladding left over so made a trim out of one of them.
And made a diamond to finish it off.
The sides need cutting down and finishing off but I'll do this once the roof is on so I can see how much overhang I want. The roof should hopefully be here within the next 3 days. Then it's just the door and the structure is complete. It might fall down when I remove that post @gookah put in the middle of the door frame though, I'm beginning to wonder why he put it there

The best part for me would be the smell of wood being cut and worked. Love the finnial mate, the icing on the cake. Are you having a motorised up and over door?

It smells great cutting all the new wood, I think I'm pretty much done cutting anymore for a while though until I start making some shelves and a bench. Not quite an up and over door but will be motorised. I've got one on order from a company called rollerdor. It has a box that sits at the top of the side guides which the door rolls into. You will see above the door opening from inside a post that is above the frame which the box will screw into and it will also cover everything there which is why it doesn't look as neat.
I was going to use a roller when I had mine done mate but as the garage is a sectional building it would have been too heavy so went with the up and over. Only drawback is that you have to park 2ft away from the door to allow it to swing upwards, but it does finish flush with the front of the garage when it's open. It'll be good fun planning where to put shelves and storage etc.

Yes I fitted a chamberlain unit to my mums garage door so it is fully motorised and the work well. Only trouble was if a car was parked close to it and you pressed the remote it would open and smash into the car. We had the remote in the house and as the garage is down the bottom you can't see what's parked infront so you have to double check before opening. That's better that yours finishes flush when open. The roller one goes straight up and down which will be great as if I need too I can park right against it. I still haven't had the car in there yet so once it's in I can see what room I have left.
