Your dad probably just unbolted it while he was there....
.......on one of the many occasions you drove him up the wall ????

I've got a new prefab. (Well a year old when we bought the house so 3 now)View attachment 144203 I have around 4 feet length left if I reverse right in and it's around 1 and half times the width of the car so a nice size. It's great expect in really cold weather it drips off the metal roof beams so put some pipe lagging around them to stop it.

/offtopic Love the German-style license plate! Where did you make it and has it been ok to use it permanently?

I never drive him up the wall  we unbolted it together...

Him on the ground, me hanging out the window, both holding 4 lengths of wood screwed together with an angle grinder tie wrapped to the end, a few precision cuts and run for cover.

Glad to see health and safety is still alive and well up north

funnily enough my wife (who is the Heath and Safety Advisor where we work) turned up just as we were doing it, and started walking down the drive just as a 5" disc disintegrated and flew towards her..

She should have been wearing goggles.... should know better!

David was the guider of the grinder from the window, and switcher on-&-off'er via the switch on the extension lead (the trigger was tie-wrapped in the on position)
I was the counterbalance at ground level, and mover up and down, plus escape artiste when the aerial came down,,,,,

That's a decent size, do you know the rough width, looks quite a bit wider than standard? New ones are more than I want to pay unfortunately. Yours is the type I was looking at with them sort of panels that bolt together I think and not with the beams and brackets and panels like I had on mine. Only thing is getting a decent second hand one that comes down easily and goes back up the same is difficult. I would use a wooden apex roof with tinted panels if I went for a prefab.
Not been on for a few days Dave. I'll measure up later and let you know.

Sorry Dave thread destruction!! Ebay and yes no issues.

I’ve had plenty experience digging out concrete slabs and don’t envy you one bit. Our house was a concrete jungle when we bought it, I used a jackhammer and filled 3x large skips with the 8” thick slab an£ the sub base before back filling with 6ton soil to lay grass :dead:
All that work 6 years ago and I’ve dug it all back up and laid a patio and artificial turf =)):banghead::banghead::banghead:

s*** sorry Dave! Forgot about this. I'll measure up in the morning. My apologies, I don't get on here as much as i used to.

@g8jka. Dave mine garage is 12.5x16.5ft. Couple more feet on the length would be good if you have the room but width is great.

Mine was advertised as 18ft x 18ft so we put down an 18x18 slab including the pit. When I came to re erect the garage I managed to get the lower row up on my own but the next day I had to enrol my old Dad to help me lift the top row and get the bolts in. Bad news was when we were nearly done I realised that there were going to be 4 panels left over:mad:. The building was actually 18ft x 20ft. and as Dave said that extra 2ft makes a world of difference.

Tony.

That's a real bugger mate. I think I'd have been tempted to resolve it at the time because I'm sure over the last 86 years that extra 2 foot you lost has really bugged you :D

Few jobs done last week, shame it's rained the last few days though. First thing was to take up the other half of the concrete slab. It wasn't actually as bad as I was expecting, just noisey and time consuming as I had to move the blocks on my own. It was dig a bit, move the rubble, dig a bit more, move more rubble etc. A couple of afternoons work and it was all out.

Then there were piles of rubble everywhere, still hadn't got a skip until Thursday. Once that arrived we got it all in Thursday afternoon and also dug up the concrete ramp which went from the edge of the drive up into the garage. The old ramp started where the plywood is, this will be gradually graded up to the level of where the new base will lie.

Forgot to take some pictures of the skip, it was full and when the guy came back the day after to collect it said he thought there was about 4 tonnes worth.

Now there's a bit more room we put down a frame to give an idea of the size of the new garage. Originally I was going for a 20ft x 12ft, nice and long as the area at the back of the garage was wasted space so it's as far back as we can go. It starts a few feet further back than the original. We don't have room for a shed if the new garage goes right to the back of the garden, so the garage will be nice and long to give the storage behind the car. 12ft was a little too wide and doesn't leave a lot of garden so looking a 10ft wide instead. This still gives a nice walkway down either side of the car and plenty of width to still open both doors to get in and out. If I park up to either side I should be able to fully open the opposite door and there will be enough room all round if I need to do any work. The back area will be big enough for some shelving and storage for the hardtop and spare wheels.

Got another skip and mini digger coming end of next week to dig out the base ready to prep for a new slab.

Great work. Can’t wait to see how it turns out

Few bits done over the past few days. The mini digger came Friday which made easy work of digging the base ready for the new slab. The new level will now actually be about 6" lower than where it sat before. This means there is hardly any incline from the drive upto the garage. We also took the level of the old patio down a bit so it will all sit at the same height, apart from the grass area at the rear which we will raise up a little. Both sides and rear had trenches dug out ready to sit the frame in.

Had to shift this pile of hardcore into the middle of the base which will go under the concrete.

Just need to compact the sides, then rake out the hardcore and compact again and it's ready for concrete.

The old lower level of the patio is raised up, making it one level throughout. This needs compacting down as well and some hardcore on top them compacting again.

Plus another skip almost filled yesterday, which was unbelievably hardwork as we've had torrential rain the last couple of days and it made the soil so sticky and heavy to shovel it in.

Everywhere is now a mud bath, but at least no more skips are needed.

Will your final drainage levels be ok?....................Frankie
