N/S ball joint complete arm changed 2 years ago £100 fitted, Don't fancy doing it myself.
Bit annoying re emissions, booked it in for 10am took it on a 30 minute thrash before hand only for it to be sat at the garage for another 5 hours cooling down. Not sure whether this made a difference?
Does your temp needle sit bang in the middle of the gauge Paul?

Please don't get me wrong. The car has a proper test and he will fail it if there's something to fail it on. But what ever we have tried in the past we just can't get the emmissions low enough. Done the thrash it down the bypass trick and oil and filter change just before mot and various tweets but nothing does it. Because, his words not mine "it's such a solid good example" and he looks after it for me regarding mot work and servicing he let's the emissions go. It's like he says, it doesn't make the car dangerous.

find an mot chap who will put his car on the ramp and take the measurement;) sure tony will frown on this but they are out there.
Not really a case of frowning on it Jason. If an owner operator of a testing station wants to stick his neck out and break the law it's up to him/her but to expect a man who is employed to test cars as his livelyhood, to do that is downright unfair. I can only think that these stations are NOT testing cars with the correct procedure to be honest.

And how many two strokes do you have near you? Reliant Robins don't have to have an emissions test, apart from a visual check for excessive smoke, but again how many are out there these days?
To be honest VOSA, or DVSA as they are known these days send out very mixed messages regarding emissions testing. Until recently we used to get a visit or 2 over a year to audit the station. Sometimes the guys would bring a car/van back in and test it themselves to see how they feel about the quality of your testing.BUT, in 14 years they have NEVER re-tested the emissions on any vehicle even though we have to keep a hard copy of results for 3 months in a box file alongside the database of the computer itself. In all those years they have NEVER even lifted the lid on that box file, it could be empty for all they know/care? It makes me wonder, but at the end of the day I could lose my testing licence and with it my job! At 59 years old where do you think I would find another one?

this is a very common issue with these zeds, funny thing happened with my mot, it failed on the ball joint and emissions, but when i returned the car with the new ball joint he just checked the joint and passed it, didnt mention the other part. previously the place i took it too before would just put his car on the ramp for the emissions test, i didnt ask him too, though he did tell me to take it away and give it a good thrashing then when it still failed - well the rest is history.

I would be very interested in testing your car "properly" Dave just to see what's what. It can only be the Cat not working, getting hot enough to burn of the nasties in the exhaust gas. I don't test many Z's but quite a few older BMWs and don't have this problem.
I have no problem you guys getting your cars on the road however you need to, because, personally I don't believe half the crap which comes from Government about air pollution, especially in view of todays disclosures, after all this was another of Blair's pet agencies.

That's exact what he says to me Jason. Says I don't use it enough. Will see next month cos it's due and it's just done 1200 on the euro cruise so I'll report back.

Tony, if I let you do it you would have to fail it mate and that of course would be the right thing for you to do. Then I'd have to pay to get it tested again. I would like to know whats up with it tho. Looking back it's had the same co2 reading for a fair few years.

sometimes a small leak in the exhaust (pre-cat) can fool the ecu into changing the fuel air mixture.

I can take a car and do an emission test without having to log on to an MOT mate. I tell you what, when we have the mini meet in a few weeks if you come over to work early,11.00 ish I will do an emission test and we can see what it's doing all F.O.C.

That mainly affects the Lamda (Air/fuel ratio) and a leak after the O2 sensor has a worse effect than one before too. If the Co is high it often corresponds with higher Hydro carbons as well.

Would be really interesting to see if a terraclean makes any difference to the cars that find it hard to pass?
