I know I'm starting to get excited, even more so after this week when all the long runs are out the way :D

Week 17
This week has been a steady week with no dramas, just lots of running.
As with everywhere else in the UK this week the sun has been shining in Yorkshire, it has been nice after all the training in bad weather to finally feel a bit of sun on your back when you run.
Monday lunchtime was the usual 5 mile sprint
Wednesday was another lunchtime 5 mile sprint
Thursday night was 8.5 miles steady run
Saturday was my last long run before London, 22.5 miles at marathon pace.

The next phase of the training is tapering, during this period you give our muscles time to recover and your body to store the slow burning body fuels required to keep you moving in the marathon. Running wise you continue with speed and tempo work but the long run miles start cutting down and hopefully by race day you are fresh, injury free and like a coiled spring iching to go!

I got a bit giddy and put them away, I guess they will have to come back out again together with long trousers and thermal tops. :(

Week 18
Finally the miles are starting to come down, only 32 miles this week.
Monday lunch 5 miles and cold
Wednesday night 8.2 miles and colder
Thursday afternoon 6 miles cold but sunny
Saturday 12.2 miles and cool again

It's been Hull marathon today and some of my fellow runners have been taking part. It was near perfect conditions today for me (cloudy, cool and just a little breeze), had I not got my place at London I would have been on that start line with them this morning and it would all be over by now. Well done to all of them for completing the 26.2 miles.

I think he is probably doing better than me, he certainly looks fresher and every time I see him he is running so I hope he is not over training. I'll be glad when he stops cause it means I can stop too!!

Yes at last single figures, it's not long now.

Week 19
This week has been the quietest week of all, only 24 miles in total
Monday 5 miles
Wednesday 6 miles
Friday 5 miles
Sunday 8 miles

One of the good things about having a quiet week was it gave me more time to do other things like Going on the Yorkshire cruise on Saturday, it was my first cruise, thanks Mark for organising it I had a blast it was great fun chasing through the dales and I carn't wait until the next time.

As for this week, the miles are low again until the big day on Sunday, the object of this is to rest the legs and give any small muscle tears or aches time to recover. Diet wise it's time to carb up big time with pasta and lots of it, this is slow burn muscle fuel.

So that's it 20 weeks of training to a marathon. By the time I stand on the start line on Sunday I will have covered about 600 miles during this period.
As the saying goes the marathon isn't the hard bit, it's the 600 miles you do to get there !

Try hard - fight easy :) .

I did the Nottm marathon with hardly any marathon training - I was just fit from other things. 4hrs25min. Not a good time, but quite good considering the lack of training and specialist diet. Miles 14 to 24 were the hardest - no crowd and boring as hell - I got quite good at my times tables. Fortunately, I had no problem with the Wall.

The hardest thing for me was the drive home :(( - aching legs and lots of traffic.

Good luck and enjoy the day :-bd .

I've done Nottingham and it's not the best course because the first half is run in conjunction with a half marathon so you go past the finish line at the halfway point so you can see were you what to be but you just have another 13 miles to do to get there. 4hrs 25min is a good time, "there are days when you think you couldn't run a marathon, but there's a lifetime of knowing you have"
I think my worst experience of that double loop dilemma was last year at Mablethorpe in the October heat wave and that was an exact double loop and no shade to hide from the sun, the best bit was the ice cream after finishing B-)

Thanks guys and gals for all your support, the nerves are starting to kick in now.
Going down to London on the 7am train in the morning. One of my friends collected my number for me on wednesday so I can just take it easy.
I'll post some pics as soon as.
