yes oranges were first, so what was the colour orange called before orranges?

It was any colour, because when I did warranty claims on Chrysler vehicles back in the 70's there were many fault codes apply to quality of paint finish such egg shell, dull, etc. but amongst these was "orange peel " there fore a blue, green, red or any coloured car could have orange peel !!

I think it's after the fruit as colour wasn't invented till after the 1950s as everything was in black and white before then.
