Is it worthwhile using a maf cleaner or buy a new sensor ? I can’t find a Bosch one for my Z3 , .3ltr so the best I can get at a good price is ERA made in Italy. Everything I read say’s don’t buy anything Chinese, Has anyone fitted a ERA Maf and had any problems? Thanks John
 
If you are sure it is faulty its worth trying the cleaner. Only as a last resort as quite a few owners say it has made there's worse. If you have nothing to lose its worth ago

Do not go cheap pattern parts rarely work or last long, always go oem brands Bosch or Seimens. Going to hurt the wallet but assured oem will work out of the box. Learnt this lesson very early on with my 1.9 Z3 felt like it was being held back and lumpy running. Put a Bosch unit on and it instantly cured the problem.
Same could be said for all other sensors on the Z3 and Z4 but I have had success using Hass brand camshaft sensors.
The old addage buy cheap pay twice was never so true when it comes to sensors.
I did try cleaning the original with Maf Cleaner, all that did was kill it completly.

You can do a test and check the MAF.

It involves setting up a smart phone app called OBDFusion https://www.e46fanatics.com/threads/obd-fusion.1240733/#post-18380161. Set it up as per the PDF in that link. Run a Rev-Rise log (will provide details if you are interested) and post a link to the log here. I can run the log through my MAF model and tell you what is going on.

Priced up MAF sensor , Siemens VDO . £150. whats fitted now ? Bremi OEM sensor approx £65. What do you think ?
 
Mine is Bosch. Don't know if OEM but has been on car for over 10 years to my knowledge. Echo the "don't buy a cheap one"! :thumbsup:
 
I would make sure you get a oem maff direct from a bmw dealer. A lot of fakes are about particularly on ebay etc.
 
Hello again , just fitted new MAF sensor VDO which matches the one taken out . The car drives really well . Burt check with scanner reveals Dme fault 8 now gone, Instead have Dme / Fault 1 now . Took the car for a run to let the new MAF get to know the car . Did a scan again still got Dme fault1. Can you tell what this fault is and how to remedy? Thanks John
 
Have you tried to clear the DME fault 1 now the car has been run?

Hi Tony , yes after the run put scanner on again would not clear the fault1 . Any idea what fault 1 is ? Thanks John
