Just age related Davy, but also was probably fitted last with a slight "twist" in it which doesn't let the rubber sit naturally and makes it perish and crack prematurely. The same thing happens with coolant hoses too.

while my intake hose was off and i was waitning for delivery of the new one i took the opportunity to remove the throttle body, and the secondary throttle body and give them a thorough clean and degrease and polish up the brackets, i just find it so much easier when things are clean under the engine bay for maintenance, was hoping i could get the throttle feel a bit better too as the throttle pedal is so stiff.. i also took out some of the slack in the throttle cable as there was about an inch of play in the pedal before the throttle did anything..

If the throttle is stiff Al, the cable is cutting into the inner cable sleeve. Only thing to do is replace it mate.
