Picked up some seats and switches yesterday but have just realised that the connectors from seat to wiring loom are different.
Obviously having looked at a few threads this morning it is just a matter of splicing the wiring to make it work,
I'm too tight to pay BMW for the conversion harness ;)
I'd rather fit some of these to the car side and leave the seat wiring intact.

Do you still have your old seats?

If yes, then you may not need to change any wiring.

It is easy to swap your new seat onto your old mechanical bases and maintain the original electrics that go with them.

Once you have removed your seats from the car,
unplug the seatbelt pre-tension wire at the buckle mount (slide the cabletie off, and carefully un-thread it from the rear of each seat quite easy). Then remove the plastic skirts on the sides of each seat, (3 philips screws) containing all the electric switches and wires. Disconnect the tilt cables from the bases (slightly open the two pronged lever to release them).
Remove the two bolts at the rear of the seats attaching them to the bases, and remove the seat from the base.
Swap your new seats onto your old bases following the above in reverse, and you’ll have new seats and existing electrical connections - nothing new required!🤗

I’ve just done it.😏

Thanks for the info MickyG,

I’ll certainly consider it but these seat frames are so good (no movement that I can find) at the moment I’d prefer to keep seats and frame together.

If that’s your preferred route, have you looked at wiring diagrams from the pre and post facelift cars? They are quite different: the post facelift having various additional relays not found in the pre facelift.

I may well have the two car side pigtails you are after- FOC if they are still in my scrap car……

Edit
Sorry - had a look and someone has had them

PS
It’s easy enough to swap the fore/aft bushes that allow the rocking that older seats suffer.

If no one has the pigtails, I’ll probably go down the route you took.
if necessary swap the bushings over or 3d print some.

Seat bushings available for cheap and not a difficult job to replace. Sand paper and a torx socket.

You would essentially need to create your own loom to match the BMW part if you didn't want to do any chopping of floor and seat looms IIRC. You will need to find someone willing to chop the electrical connectors on their PF: seats, rendering them useless and a breaker willing to send out the floor connector from a facelift car to make a loom. Some fatal cuts. Finding the connectors new that BMW use isn't easy, harder to find a supplier. I tried.

I just bought the harnesses. (Harnessi?)

Yes they are heated, I do have the dashboard switches. Sockets for switches I believe to already be there.
I made the mistake of thinking all Z3’s had the same loom with everything in place so easy to retro fit anything.
I’ll make it work not too hard.
Looking like I may go your way MickyG.
I originally thought the floor connector pigtail would be the easiest way to do it (apart from buy the BMW conversion leads). I’m sure one of the threads even mentioned that the wiring colours are the same, just different connectors.

You will need to modify the heated seat connector as well as swapping the seatbelt pre tensioners.

Heated seats are in the single yellow plug on facelift but are separate on a Prefacelift.

There will be the wiring for heated seats in your Z3 loom - they will be hidden under the floor carpet beneath the seat, and under the carpet on the passenger side under the transmission tunnel just in front of the gear stick.
Under your existing seats you should hopefully find a socket (without any pins) that will connect to the heated seat loom from the car. You can then add two lots of two pins to make up the plug.
I have four spare pins I robbed out of a Z4 that work perfectly if you would like them?

I’ll ping you a photo of the car loom plugs you are looking for (as there are several hiding under your carpet for all sorts of other optional extras ).

Have a look in the Progress Threads:
Mike’s Retrofit Aircon Cruise Heated Seats ++
I’ve just done what you want to do.

Hopefully you might find it useful.

Thanks for the link to your progress thread MickyG

Certainly an interesting read, I was nearly late for work last night ;)
