Excuse the slightly rough pastry, but here's something I thought of when I saw that Asda in Pwllheli were doing cheap Kiwi fruit. Not perfect yet, but I'll get there. One day.

You have to like Kiwi fruit to enjoy it, luckily I do. And being one of those miserable single folks, I get to eat the lot by myself.:thumbsup:More joy.

Gee! You’re spoiling me!!! 🤣
Gorgeous! The questions are…did you make the pastry? And did you blind bake it?!? Or bake it blind?!? 🤣

All my own work, said the very smug me. Blind baking is best for soft stuff, a layer of pureed Kiwi underneath, but the one I made this morning is just pureed Kiwis, turns out that just slicing some and plonking them on top doesn't work as well as I was hoping, but that's how you learn things, the only people that don't make mistakes are the ones that don't do anything.

Very good philosophy to have. Have you thought of using jelly? To make a sort of tart? Or a sponge? Or will this mess with the bottom?

We'll have no messing with any bottoms being mentioned on this particular site. Please.

I used some gelatine to help set it into some form of sticky mess, and glazed the tart base after the blind baking. I'm up to the third iteration and it's still not right, the only way is to keep trying. Tastes just the way you would expect, even if it is a bit soggier than I'd like.

Take six Royal Gala apples (supposedly British, but I used to work on an organic farm, so I know British apples aren't available just now) flour, butter, an egg yolk, 10ml of water, and some apricot jam and what do you get? Not telling, you'll have to guess.

There isn't quite so much left of it now.

A … er … tart … apple tart, by any chance?

Truly scrumptious!

A firm one as opposed to a soggy one? Erm…I know my preference.

So it's strawberry time, then. Hows about a layer of strawberry yoghurt with a touch of gelatine, with some randomly strewn strawberries chucked on top? Why the hell not?

Off to Asda for more of those delicious red items of joy soon, and did I ever mention making strawberry wine back in the days when I was still drinking? The true taste of summer in a glass, tasted too damn good, though.

Do any of you have a Greenhouse growing your own tomatoes? If you do then look up the recipe for "Green Tomato Pie".

Yes. I did say "Green". ie unripe.

At the end of the year there's always a few left in the greenhouse that won't ripen. So you could use them.

But seriously, the pie is so yummy that after the first one you'll be picking them early before they get chance to ripen just so you can make more of it.

If you discard the pips/seed and just use the flesh. Make the pie and serve it telling people it's an apple pie. I guarantee they will say it's the best apple pie they ever tasted - then you tell them it's green toms and they won't believe it.

Seriously. Best pie I ever tasted.

A different take on strawberries and cream! Looks and sounds delicious. Save a slice for a fellow roadster 🤣😉

@the Nefyn cat Have you tried layers of filo pastry to make a nest-like base to hold the contents? Less fat!

Nothing wrong with fat, as such. You may not have noticed, but there's never been so much "low fat, no fat, reduced fat " stuff for sale, and yet there's never been so many obese people waddling about the place. And wasting the NHSs' time and resources. I may try making some puff pastry for the next apple tart, makes a little bed for the fruit to display itself wantonly. Bl**dy teasing deliciousness.;)
