Yeah, 6th is basically an "Overdrive" so could be a winner mate. Hope it goes well.

do you think I will get much more than my regular 17mpg?
Sounds like you running the same map as me...

I think we must have holed the tank when swapping the diff, the fuel light can come on at 140 miles these days :bag:
Like driving an electric car - I’ve range anxiety now =))

Mine will average around 25 mpg and it doesn’t seem to matter really how I drive it.

Finally getting back down in the garage today. Left the heater on this morning to take the chill off. First up was to remove the stuck calliper and fit a pair of fresh rebuilt callipers. All went smoothly these things are so heavy to handle.

I then took her for an extended test drive, could still feel some air in the system so that will need another all round bleed. I also got the tracking sorted so she now points the right way. Notice the rear camber due to 19” wheels the norm is around 2*

I then did a further two laps of my local ring road to bed the brakes in. One disc had a stuck pad mark and the other side was suffering with the stuck calliper so now she feels tight with no pulling sideways. I even had a chance to take a quick snap. Right height looking spot on now.

So today I changed out the old fuel tank straps for a fresh set. Never done this in situe before, I can confirm its very easy and took me 5mins a side.

The prototype set not looking too bad. These will get powder coated for the next car.

The last job we did today was look at the front brakes again. It’s now clear that due to the size of the front callipers IE the piston it’s such a huge void of oil to fill the brake servo is struggling to maintain a good bite point. The peddle bites two thirds of the way down but when it does it locks the wheels up so easy. Jim’s Zed could do with a Z3M brake servo or a 3 series servo to bring that bite point back up. I remember some years ago we wen through this in some detail on the Fourm. It seems the 300mm brake size is the max unless you go down the 4/6 pot route like on mine.

Just caught up on this one and was a great read. Still amazes me how you get all these different jobs done in such a small space. Like the pic of the single Vanos TB, still a shame no one does it for the twin Vanos.
You must be getting a bit of a rep going round your local ring at warp+ in all those different motors.
Stay safe see you when this bl...y virus allows us out more.

RHA,ROY. ;)
