I've just had the renewal letter through from Mannings who have changed underwriters. The proposal was to increase last years premium of £260 to £530 for this year. An increase is bad enough but more than double!!!

They didn't seem surprised that I declined their kind offer. I need to get on this quickly though - I've read Staceys sticky which is helpful. I had several 'mods' listed with Mannings though which many insurers don't like.

Any recommendations for a lightly modded Z3 very welcome.

Steve.

Tesco Bank has been the best for my Alpina for the past few years the M is with them now. Though last year the M was with SAGA (if you old enough ;)) but went up silly amount at renewal

Just renewed the Z3 with Adrian Flux gone down from £146 to £131 strange when they tried to put my daily up last year by £100 so left them for that one. It does seem that depending on which way the wind blows and if theirs an R in the month depends on who gives the best deal.

Isn't it best to insure with a Classic Cars Insurer?

Nope
If your car is highly modified a classic car insurer is not always the best value
So a Z as original from BMW is OK for a classic insurer?

Yes and any other standard insurer
Just because it's old a specialist insurer is not always the best value
Its depends what you are looking for
If you want an agreed value policy then the the specialist insurers are the best to look at

I went with Adrian Flux this time as Manning’s premium had gone up by about 35% iirc. Had to pay extra £15 with AF to get my agreed value which I was happy with.

I'm way off my renewal date but am thinking of jumping from mainstream to specialist to safeguard my car.
No mods - I'm original! =)):)

£280 for 5k limited. Use for social and domestic & commute. It's probably not the cheapest (it is a 1.9 BTW) but I have another car insured through the same company (AiB) which overall made it very good for two.

Thanks very much everybody. I've gone with Lancaster - quote was £116 which is fantastic although I did notice when the payment went through I had been charged £133 which I think was the instalment price. Hopefully that can be sorted.
