I'm not really normal in that respect. Don't know anything about different 'groups' in the last 30 or 40 years. Just had almost 0 interest. Maybe 1 or 2 groups to a small degree. That's just me. Frankie

We listen to a daily "pop" quiz on the radio at mid morning Frankie and what with me at 58 another guy who is mid 30's and a very young 21 year old, we just about have the questions covered. I think HT must be a closet punk! ( in the musical sense you understand) apart from Stevie's Nicks.:ymdevil:

I am 52 Tony and I was a Punk, red mohican the lot.
The Clash are under rated in my opinion, they got it on the button with most of their songs. No disrespect to Frankie, but the Yanks are out of touch and always will be and the UK just follows the leader. That vid I posted is 30+ years old and more relevant today than ever before and just to prove a point, it went over Frankie's head.
I have worked in the middle east and North Africa and these 'tribes' need dictators.

Right, political rant over.

Bet you looked good too mate, I'm more the glam rock era and the punk thing went over my head tbh. Always had a soft spot for Rock n roll in its 50's style. You are absolutely spot on re the dictators, since the world got shot of Gadaffi, Hussein and such the Middle East has gone to sh. t. It might have been bad with them but it must be a whole lot worse now.
Climbs down of soapbox.

I just read this. I think you've made a significant mistake. The mistake was in this line:

Quote:"That vid I posted is 30+ years old and more relevant today than ever before and just to prove a point, it went over Frankie's head."

Let me remind you of my statement in an earlier post: Quote:

"I'm not really normal in that respect. Don't know anything about different 'groups' in the last 30 or 40 years."\

Your mistake was in the supposition that, in attempting to qualify Brits in their superiority over other countries regarding certain types of music, you picked me as the standard bearer of Yank knowledge of this type of music. I believe it would be quite impossible to pick anyone less qualified. That is not to say that I have no musical qualification. I just don't happen to prefer your type of music. That is my choice. I further object to the inference of my lack of musical capability. I've played piano for over 50 years. I studied ragtime and classical piano as my preference. I auditioned to open Tokyo Disneyland and came in second only to a full time musician who plays this music for a living. I was hired to open Disneyland in Paris on the condition that I could get working papers from a European country, which I couldn't. While playing in an employee talent show at Caesars, a famous black entertainer, Pearl Bailey, contacted me to come back stage to meet her piano player because she thought my ragtime was exceptional. While shopping at the local Macy's department store, I heard ragtime being played over the music system and sat down at a piano there and played the same song at the same time, note for note. The store manager hired me on the spot to play for the store. I challenge you to find someone who is not a professional musician to play a song on a audio system in a store, note for note at a moments notice. I also played trombone for about 10 years. While playing in high school, our band, during one of those years, was city champions of the City of Philadelphia. That metropolitan area, at that time, contained about 10 million people. It won us the honor of the only high school band to play at the National Convention of music that comes to Philadelphia once every 13 years. I may not live up to your standards in music, but I'm certainly not ashamed of mine. Thank You and goodnight. Frank Henry Tofini

Oh Jesus Frankie, its late and I have got to go to bed.
My comment had nothing to do with you personally or your taste in music.
It was just a sweeping political statement about the world today and the fact that these guys were singing about it 30+ years ago and I think (and I will be polite this time) that the majority of the American public have no idea what so ever about what is going on out side of their Insula existence (and before bonzo starts, I know its a continent)
Yours and our cannon fodder troops will be back down there in the same crap that was started by George Herbert Walker Bush (Desert Storm) in 1991.

Hey, previously known as Shane Fenton ( backing group The Fentones) and 1/2 a mile up the road from us the next village is called Fenton !!
And only 1/2 a mile the other way in Torksey village The Castle Inn used to have a dance hall in the old barn where, before he was famous played Shakin' Stevens and The Sunsets and others. Good times mate whatever music you were into, my cousin Gus (Robert) he was a punk along with many of my mates. It was the times of something different.
