How do you remove the boot lock?

I have just noticed a couple of small paint bubbles/blisters around the boot lock. :-s I am led to believe that this is an area prone to rust.

Please can you advise how easy it is; and also the procedure to remove the boot lock?

If you do take it out and you have time would you take some pics of what you did and maybe add some comments to them? would be great to be able to see the process
