I have a buddy ('mate') that bought a first-gen S2000 new. Around town it was relatively gutless, with no torque available unless you revved the hell out of it. It would 'come on the pipe' quite nicely, though. We took a roadtrip to the USGP/Indianapolis in it, and I drove almost the whole way. Even on the highway the lack of on-demand passing torque was frustrating and I always had to drop a gear (or two). He ended up trading it on a Mustang GT after a few years.
This is exactly how i felt with it.
Ok if you don't mind ragging the hell out of it to go fast, I know they're designed for it, but that's not the way I drive.
I suppose I've got old, I much prefer the effortless pace that the Z3 gives.
Such a shame as it used to be my dream car, I was so excited about finally getting the chance to own a really good one. Quick road test and I ruled it out.
I had a Civic Vti years ago, that was high revs power delivery, loved that, but as I said, years ago when I was younger. Got a Pulsar GTiR after that, wish I still had that.
