I can't help you with the camera side of things, my expertees extend about as far as which way to point it. However if you are going to Vegas, I bought a camera stateside a few years a go and saved an absolute packet. I think it worked out to be about 2/3 the Uk price.

As for Vegas, quite jelous actually. I worked there for a month back in 2009, what a place!!!!! :ymdevil:

Me too, I thought I would hate it! The first time there was there for 5 or 6 weeks and visited the strip twice but was working so didn't get chance.

can spend hours here: http://www.frys.com/ worth a check on prices to see if it's worth waiting for Vegas or not.

The first two photos are consecutive shots and justify why i would choose a Digital SLR with a Zoom Lens Combination, The third shot is the zoom lens at max on a monkey that was quite far away, I dont have the distance shot for this one for comparison, but a compact would not capture this detail. The third shot is a close up using the zoom lens, so no need to keep changing. The last photo is the fun you can have playing with manual settings on DSLR, yes it is the toll booth on the M6 toll. Plus the ability to shoot in RAW format you can have a great time with HDR images and photoshop enhancements

The Jessop deals are ideal with the twin lens combination, and i would just leave the zoom lens on as you can still get close up shots see fourth photo.

Ok, ok

I've been to Vegas and back and not bought a camera and I'm now quite close to safari time!

Must buy a camera

Been to Jessops today

Nikon d5100 seems a good choice?

Still not sure that I'm going to need the various lens available, the bridge cameras look good, many digital cameras for between £200-300 have up to x35 zoom. I don't want to buy a crap camera, but I also don't want it to rule my life!

The d3100 mentioned earlier seems to do everything I need, anyone else have thoughts on this?

What about the fuji hs25exr x30 optical zoom, hd movies, etc. £280

There is too much jargon on cameras for me to work out between now and when I need o buy one! All help gratefully received!

P.s. car has mot Tomorrow ! Oh dear! Or .... oh... That's dear!

I have 3 cameras, a Lumix compact, Fuji bridge and Canon DSLR. Although not had the Canon long unless I am going out to specifically take pictures then it gets left behind unfortunatly but does take the best pictures. The compact is great for keeping in your pocket for those impulse shots but the bridge for me is the best comprimise between quality and practicality, great zoom capability and resolution and the latest take HD movies negating having to take a camcorder if you want to film video as well.
