I had a seat altea for a while, one of the injectors failed and over fuelled one of the piston bores for a while this caused the car to run as rough as a dog on startup, do not remember any smoke but is did act as if it was missing on a cylinder, once warm the car ran fine.Jue has just video'd me jump starting the car to get it under the carport to get the battery charged up. My Niggling doubt with what I have been told from the neighbour is that once started it drives fine and ticks over smoothly on all cylinders. Surely if a piston or rings had gone it would be able to do this? In fact it never missed a beat! Something is bugging me with this. Am I throwing money away when the repair could be pence??? The smoke is grey.
I also did some delving and found the same mate but I didn't want to dishearten you, the AA will compression test it.Just been on with @Lee and he's done some delving about for me and had come back with the rings as the most likely cause. Going to get a compression test done to confirm one way or the other and put this to bed!
Thanks mate but you can't kick a man when he's already down! Rovers dead as well. Sprung a water leak.I also did some delving and found the same mate but I didn't want to dishearten you, the AA will compression test it.
It's a thought Ian, hadn't really looked at doing that but it's a possibility. See what the test brings.A real choker. The more I look the more it does look like a blow-by/compression issue rather than crankcase ventilation.
There's no cheap way out to get back to the same kind of position.
Could you lay it up for a while, get another cheap runner for 3 months and build up or borrow to get an recon/exchange engine to get the Kia back running again?
At least that way you'd be able to rebuild trust in a new engine that should give many years of motoring.
Bloody hell mate, if there was only bad luck you wouldn't even get that! Chin up mate and good luck. It's a thought Ian, hadn't really looked at doing that but it's a possibility. See what the year brings.
