OK you all know the saga so there's nothing to hide here. We've now been told the car has most likely dropped a piston so we're selling it as a non runner. It does actually run but blows oil out the dipstick so needs someone who's happy to throw some money at it or who repair it themselves. Its a "57" 2.5crdi Xi done 118000. It looks lovely in and out. MOT is a month off but don't see any problems with that once sorted.
As a good running car it's £4000-4500 so asking £2500.
Not what we need right now but that's life!
Antone that knows anyone please drop me a pm.
Cheers
Grumps.

Dave have you priced up to see what the cost would be to repair it. Might be a better option than letting it go for nearly half the value. Then you could sell for the higher price to recoup your money.

Haven't got the outlay to do it mate. Minimum of a £1000 and quite honestly I can't be arsed anymore. Second hand engines for them are stupid money. Rather just cut our losses and move on.

I too just had a look at engine prices and could not believe the price they were fetching, is we buy any car an option? Even with the declared fault?

Thanks Brian. I know it's unbelievable what they fetch. No "we buy" offer is pathetic. If I had room and time I'd break it.

It's such a shame, it looks in lovely condition otherwise. Do you think you would get a decent amount back breaking it? Couldn't someone on here with the space and kit to break it and help you out? I know we have a few members who double as dismantlers? Anyone to the rescue?

He would be very lucky to find an accident write off that hasn't had a front end impact. If the engines were really reliable there would be some out there at lower prices. Rarity will only push prices up.:(

Jue has just video'd me jump starting the car to get it under the carport to get the battery charged up. My Niggling doubt with what I have been told from the neighbour is that once started it drives fine and ticks over smoothly on all cylinders. Surely if a piston or rings had gone it would be able to do this? In fact it never missed a beat! Something is bugging me with this. Am I throwing money away when the repair could be pence??? The smoke is grey.

Sounds like an exploratory investigation may prove cost effective!

Depends what cover you have, but you could drive half a mile from your house and give them a call, you might get a decent diagnosis as they have particular car specialist,
