I agree Dave, and far way past time something was done about European drivers. Perhaps they should bring trailers accross the channel and pass them on to UK trucks?

Yep that would work Tony but while the companies wanting stuff moving are happy to pay for the cheaper hauliers from abroad then it'll never happen. Our firms cannot compete with fuel and wages. The foreigners are only legally allowed to stay for 6 weeks at a time but all they do is cross on the tunnel to Calais and turn around and come straight back in again which gives them the right for another 6 weeks. They then park up and wait while their companies bid online for loads under cutting the british outfits for business. It bloody stinks but that's the way it is now so we have to lump it. :banghead::mad:

Yes, if you look closely there is a decimal point in my post and our $ dropped again today and is expected to go even lower so our gas is really cheap compared to other parts of the world and the reason NA drive big cars with high HP ENGINES! Myself included!! JIM

All this talk of how much per litre when it used to be about the gallon a big rip off when it went to litres.

But would you like to be paying $1.78 and 9/10 ? Always looks odd to us.:)

The Americans look at you gone out when you explain how much we pay for "Gas" Dave. We could fill an SUV for around $40 in September if I remember right, Frankie said he just paid $1.73/GALLON so that's gone down almost 50 cents since we were there.

Incredible mate isn't it, my mate in Dubai is paying the equivalent of £17 to fill his 3.5 V6 Ford Edge. But he is in an oil rich county. We will always have to lump the high fuel prices as 80% of pump price is tax. Such a cracking country we live in.

Yeah, at least we get a fuel price "holiday" twice a year mate. I'm hoping we get a nice sunny dry day over the Christmas break to get me woolly hat on and me roof down for a run round the local roads to blow out some cobwebs and sod the price of petrol, select sport and go.:)

We're about the same tax wise but doesn't stop anyone from buying the big SUVS and big engined pickup trucks. Mind you most of the biggest are in the 5.7l size area even the Dodge Hemis. JIM

We're paying say £1 a litre, so @ 4.54 ltr/gallon for arguments sake that's £4.54p per gallon. At approx 1.5 dollars US/£ that makes our fuel $6.04 per gallon. How much do you pay per gallon Jim? What is the exchange rate of Canadian dollars to the £ just now.

is there any way you can identify the foreign trucks that are doing this? There is obviously a certain percentage that are here short term dropping or picking up foreign shipments who are shall we say legitimate. It is the 6 weekers that need to be identified.

If you can identify those, they need to get blocked in when parked, grassed to the inspectors for running overweight or with red deisel even if there is no grounds for it. Just make their work difficult. If stuff like that doesn't work, start hiring pikeys to steal their fuel.

Complaining doesn't work anymore, sadly, nobody is listening.
