Booked into our local Auto electrician Tim. He has been at it 35 years in the same town so has a good name for himself. They have already said it could be a cluster failure, there is also a continuous buzz coming from behind the stereo even when it's turned off so maybe that could be involved with what's going on.
Ok the buzz noise changes things somewhat.

Hope it’s simple.

Sounds like a decent enough mechanic though who doesn’t only use a laptop to tell him what to change!

Silly question but it’s not that blower fan buzzing perhaps?

No it's like a constant buzz, quiet but obviously there in the background.

Update:

After a very unconvincing conversation with the garage I have spoken to TS and I'm pleased to say I am within my rights to get the car repaired at their expense at Ford, an email has been sent with the RAC diagnostic report and some other proofs of what is happening and I am now waiting for a response.
If he doesn't reply in 7 days it raises a tier and I can demand a full refund. If again he doesn't reply it's of to small claims court but I'm hoping to doesn't come to that.

I wasn't aware of any trading standards conditions regarding used cars. I understand all goods sold have to be fit for purpose but the timescale or guarantee period is a big unknown to many. So, what is the time period for used cars Dave?

12 months sounds the limit mate. First 6 months it is classed as an inherent fault so always drops back to the dealer, 6-12 months you have to prove it isn't wear and tear or abuse to the car that's caused the problem so becomes more difficult. I was a day short of 6 months but as I had been in contact with the dealer yesterday it's fine. TS have said because it's electrical there is no argument as long as I haven't been playing with the wiring which I haven't. It's also down to value, the car cost £7500, obviously if it was a couple of grand I suspect it wouldn't be so easy but don't hold me to that.

The garage have been in touch very quickly I have to say and have said they will repair the car if I get it to them. I'm in Mansfield and they are in Leeds but I can get the RAC to take it for me. Just means a run up there to fetch it when its done, i think its a fair compromise considering I was expecting much more of a battle than this. Good news all round I'd say.

Sounds like you’ve got a result.
When you say behind the dash, is it the instrument cluster or somewhere else?
Probably the power supply on the cluster or some other module.

Components do randomly fail in electronics. Simple bad luck by the sounds of it.

They are thinking it's something to do with the cluster Ian. As long as it's mended at their expense I don't mind what it is. Said they had a similar problem with another Kuga and repaired it with revtronics?
If it's a module I can't imagine them to be a cheap fix?

Good news Dave. At least they are not trying to worm out of it

We have movement. I've had to pay for the car to be transported as the RAC wouldn't do it as they had already seen the car home. Used a website called Shipley.com where people message you with there price and you pick who you want. Got it booked with a guy for £100 which from mansfield to leeds i didn't think was to bad. Its going on Tuesday afternoon so hopefully I'll be able to fetch it Saturday. The owner of the garage has been messaging me and I now feel I have him on side so hopefully all will be well when we pick it up.
