For the Love of my Zed! Novice vs Car

As it happens, we have just done a manifold swap on my sons 2.8. Makes alot of difference!! Well worth doing, Can give you a hand when required. INPA is BMW software. Plugs into the 20 pin socket under bonnet. Can switch off service lights, air-bag lights, which sensor is failing and general running of the car etc.

You may be my new best friend:woot: might take you for a beer to discuss the manifold, parts needed etc! :beer The biggest issue is buttoning down all parts, screws, nuts and bolts pipes etc so everything is to hand for the big day. Must admit the purchasing aspect will be on pause leading up to Xmas but I’ve already got a manifold, adapter bracket, water pump, thermostat housing and some Ali pullies either landed or incoming. Do you have a non a/c model and have you done the fan delete? Been struggling getting info on if I have the connections to make that happen:banghead:
 
We might pop up to discuss!! Both my son and I have got 2.8s Mine is a pre facelift 97 and Jacobs is a post facelift 99, both with aircon. My son is the one to talk about that stuff to as he is the brains and I am just the brawn!! I will ask him about fan delete later when he gets home.

Lucky buggers, didn’t think I’d need one but after this summmer there were days too hot to use the soft top! Funny concept and should have known since this is my 3rd Zed!?:banghead:
 
@Mazza good shout on the fuel additive, sure she needed it! Took her for a decent ride over the weekend, loving it!
 
Riddle me this:

Ive got an issue with my drivers seat forward back switch? The up and down work fine, and and so i thought the motor was broken, swapped it with the passenger side only to find both motors worked fine so i reinstalled it. In order to adjust it i run a crude cable from the passenger switch to the motor which works fine.

This is where it completely buffuddles me . . !? If i put a voltmeter on the switch terminals and push button to move seat forward, it shows 12+ volts, as soon as I connect the motor to it, it drops to 0.40V?

As this is an MOT fail i need help solving this massive pain in my royal. Ive checked and swapped the drivers 30Amp fuse, didn’t work. What now?
 
Is there a “technical Q&A” part of the forum i could ask questions?
 
Seat mod kit from @Southernboy arrived last night and due to rain has to wait until later tonight...can’t wait!

I’ve also got: coolant pump, thermostat & housing, coolant, and Ali pump and power steering pully ready to install but upon checking the plastic radiator drain plug, meh it’s broken, so will have to wait until it arrives before the install. Also bought the 2 large pipes which fit between radiator and thermostat so again, waiting:whistle: as a few bottles of coolant soon adds up to a pretty sum. Just wish I knew about the electrical fan connections as new radiator and fan delete would fit nicely into these works! :bookworm:
 
It looks like there is a coolant leak from the plastic part at the end of the pipe that fixes to the thermostat housing...I assume it comes with Bmw pipe not the aftermarket pipe I bought :(

Before you go to buying and installing an electric fan.... If you already have an electric fan which generally switches on when you use the AC, you don't need another electric fan.
I have removed the mechanical fan, and I live here in Johannesburg - S.Africa where the current daily summer temp is around 30C in the shade. I have changed the dual speed temp switch which fits onto the radiator, and which operates the AC electric fan. The OEM temp switch operates on a temp of 98C at which point it triggers the electric fan. I bought a temp switch for the E36 318 which has a kick in trigger temp of 89C. This means that the High speed relay is triggered if the radiator temp gets up to that temp and operates as would the mechanical fan.
While the car is moving forward, I have never had the electric fan start up. I sometimes triggers in very slow traffic and sometimes when I'm stopped at the lights. In winter here when the daily high temp is around 12 - 15C the fan never triggers. So, given the cooler conditions in the UK, you should have absolutely no problem by going the same route.
Only one small adjustment was required to get my OEM connector onto the 318 switch and that was to use a small sharp blade to trim one of the little "tabs" on the switch plastic body so that the connector would slide over and lock on.
 
@Southernboy good info, this last summer it got quite hot so deffo want a connected fan but as I don’t have the a/c I’m still trying to find the fan plug...spent some time with @MRH1966 today and I was looking for the cable on the wrong sideo_O, at least you’ve posted me in the lower temp switch direction:thumbsup:. Ps loving the seat tilt mod, subtle difference but much better position, especially when braking!:D
 
SO, now call the breaker shops and look for a Z3 Aux fan... Easy to fit etc and it's a 2 speed fan. You may also need the relays which should plug into the fuse box...
