For the Love of my Zed! Novice vs Car

How does that flare look to you lovely people of the forum?

And there i was getting excited to put “Her” back together and go for a ride before the front . . .but the front stuff (the wishbone etc) is in the way so i might as well drop out that get dirty sand back and paint (still have patches of black paint on my body) and since i have 300mm brakes on the way . . . Missing driving:sorry:

Flare looks fugly, to be honest -- even the nice one doesn't look fantastic, really. Make sure to /clean/ the pipe properly; I used steel wool to make it smooth again, and 1000 sandpaper to make sure to cut is clean, smooth, and flat -- since it is that bit that gets 'rolled' it's essential that it's pristine for a good result.

What tool did you use to make the flares? I used that: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DL0OO6C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -- it's pricey, but's it's absolutely awesome

here is what it should look like, your's doesn't look like it was flared the right way around somehow!

To make a double flare like that, first you have to make a single flare.

Tony.

I’m doing single flares, used a double single connector as previous pic, but the quality just doesn’t make me confident. Sigh. Faf and fiddle here i come . . . Anyone wanna give me a ride a ride in their Zed? =))

Today the wheels came off=)). Decided to replace entire brake lines and removed all bolts so the front wheel hubs are ready to by bashed out of the seized control arms and wishbone and i only finished after 7pm (next door neighbor kids bedtime so no banging:angelic:). Looking at the steering control arms a referb to the steering rack may be in order . . .not sure about the complexity of the removal but one to research. As for the wheel hubs, they will require a de-rust and paint, luckily I’ve bought new wishbones and steering arms, got 300mm brake calipers, disks and red stuff incoming and looking forward to getting her back together but all that is going down is undoing rather than attaching...

make sure to clean these caliper and brackets, and paint them red, as god intended :-)

I was thinking of coming up and letting you have a run in mine.......but I’m worried that you would dismantle it=))

Managed to removed hubs, wishbones, wishbone attach to chassis bits, ARB & removed engine mounts and swapped for Powerflex engine mounts. Hubs need a good polishing and painting so too the ARB and arb mounts . . .tomorrows work! Now that I’ve got access to the steering rack seem it’s only connected by a couple bolts and a couple pipes.

Got loads of nuts and bolts in zip lock labelled bags! So far I’m doing the easy stuff like adult mechano. The manifold swap gives me goosebumps though! I’ve got a month and a half to get it all back together before the landlady comes for her property inspection and I don’t want car in bits . . .might be too scary for those without the Zed passion:thumbsup:

Today was a bad day with a sprinkle of good . . .lets start with the good, new front referb I shed snadblasted and red powder coated calipers arrived . . .yay excited to get my front hubs cleaned and painted, oh wait just destroyed both pulse sensors and of the black disk to bud Allen screws, rounded, yip, let that sink in.

Tip #1 - don’t touch the sensors as i bet there’re most pricey than getting another second hand hub (await confirmation)

Now what? No idea how to remove the screw! So threw in the towel and cracked a couple beers, part of the frustrations of the process, I’m sure ill look back and laugh, but I’m about to cry. Was hoping to have both king pins brushed and potentially double coatedo_O:arghh::banghead: some days i find things go wellI(1), some days things don’t(2), some days things don’t and cost you money(3), and last and least favourite is the money and time king(4), today was number 4 i fear.

If all goes well i can do the rake lines Saturday, and maybe attempt the connection of rear Sunday=)) I’m optimistic:thumbsup:

As you can see a half ass polish, lets see the cost of the sensors first, and the offending screw! I never knew plastic could become so attached to metal, must have been the heat over the years!
