I bought this gem a few years ago, one of the most useful bits of kit I've ever bought.

It runs on a Ni-Cad battery which is just starting to not hold a full charge for as long as it used to, in fairness probably down to not being used as much as it used to be. Anyway, does anyone have an idea where I might source a replacement battery for it please?
These are the battery details,

Thanks for any info.

I was once told that these batteries can be reprogrammed and the guy who told me that he found the info out on YouTube.
Something like switching on and off something like 40 times.

So I'm guessing a little research might help

I'd start by contacting SIP
Thanks Tim, I've tried them but they just said it's a discontinued item with no parts back up.:(

I used to work in stores for VM and the lads used to use Bosche power drills, when the batteries where knackered I used to order new ones at £100 each, that was until I was told about the chip in them that is built in to protect the battery from premature charging, basically it stops the battery accepting anymore charge until it is totally drained, so thats what I used to do, just exhaust the battery by putting a zip tie on the trigger of a drill and leave it until it died, afterwards they would take a full charge,

Yeah, Ni-cad's do have "memory" issues unlike Lithium-Ion ones. I do drain it right out occasionally for that reason mate. It does still work well just not quite as long as it did.
Speaking about batteries, I was told last week that when your car battery dies you should reverse polarity charge it, fully, then flatten it and charge it correctly and it will recover.

There's probably a non OEM battery out there somewhere.
This is likely to be voltage depression effect, not memory (which is specific to tightly controlled charge/discharge cycles). Voltage depression effect typically happens from constant overcharging. Few chargers properly manage the charge cycle.
It's caused by crystals forming on individual plates. It can be reversed by deep discharge but only on individual cells not the whole battery. Try on the whole battery the active cells charge the broken ones. Put them the whole battery into deep discharge you can't recover them.

Car batteries fail because of salts forming on the plates, plates simply dissolving or occasionally I have heard that plates getting warped due to heat through high rates of discharge. Clever charges can get rid of the salts.

@t-tony you can open the battery assembly, identify the cells and get new ones of ebay. Pretty simple DIY, you only need to repack cells and solder tabs of new cells in correct order. You also can upgrade to ni-mh cells, they are less prone to memory effect.
