Had this V12 soft top in for a couple of weeks and thought I would share the progress, its come straight from California, other than that I know very little about it, its very clean and one of the easier Jags that we have had, I will be restoring it as the other guys have their bits to do, just pleased I don't have the Stag, So far I have spent 24 hours on the bonnet, space frame has been removed on gone to be soda blasted

Had a trip out to Bodmin today and came home via Wadebridge and followed an XK120 most of the way back.

Just gotta love the E-type, every mans wet dream.

What's the problem with the Stag?
The stag is the worst case scenario, didn't look to bad until it was stripped back to metal, every panel is battered, it needed 4 new wheel arches, all the inner wheel arches where shot and they needed cutting back and new ones fabricated, the rear end was twisted due to an old shunt, it leaks like a sieve, the list goes on

Stag's were a nightmare 30 years ago and they won't have got any better :(

Always good to see where it all started I think. But it can be scary to some people.

I passed an E-Type yesterday. It was broken down at the side of the road not far from home. Tragic on such a lovely afternoon. :(

In the early 70s you could pick up an E-type roadster for next to nothing. They were rusty, most had had a shunt, the engines wore out by 70k miles and they were a b------r to keep in tune with triple SU carbs.
Strange how things change over the years.

Sadly, 30yrs ago many cars suffered from the way they were put together and for the lack of quality control during the build process. A neighbour had a Triumph Dolomite from new, that dissolved over a 10yr period. He bought it as a retirement present and he expected the car to see him through.
He lived for another 20 years, the Dolly went to the scrappy after 10

As a kid I was already into cars and racing and to be honest, I can't remember seeing many E-types on the road then.
Plenty of XJ-S Mk 1's though, as that was Jags replacement for the E-type.
As kids, we were really excited about the Fiat X1/9..:bag:..Have not seen one for many years, I reckon those really did dissolve and disappear down a drain at the side of the road.
Other Italiano Exotico on the kids playing cards were the Lancia Beta Spider and Montecarlo and the iconic Stratos.

In the late 70's a couple of farmers sons close to us had an E-type coupe, which they used on a flat field to learn to drive in. It looked a real heap, after a few months.

I remember X19s, Like Ford Anglias they used to rust away in front of you while you were stopped behind them at the traffic lights in the rain. The first disposable cars. Buy a new one, scrap it a year later.

Looking really good now after 6 months work.

As that was a Californian car so mainly dry and it's still rusty, just think of the state of UK cars and the work that has to go into them.
One of our local main dealers had a Mk2 in for painting and it was a bag uf rubbish underneath. looked pretty from the outside until you started looking a bit closer.

We've done them in the past and replaced 50-60% of the main shell.
