We don't mate, to be honest I judge people's driving at work by their personalities. You can usually pull the idiots from the good guys. I had one last week and all he was concerned about was not doing over 10 hours a day and being done by 3pm. My advice was for him to leave and get a desk job so he'd know his start and finish times. He is a prime example of an accident waiting to happen! I will continue to bang my head and do my best to make our site safe but with mentality like that what chance do I really have? I have 20 drivers to keep upto date and hopefully doing things legally, our accident rate has shot up in the last 2 months, wonder why? Our firm has decided to invest in their drivers and those with class 2 licences are being put through their class 1 paid by the firm which is fantastic, they then get 2 days with me to learn the towing aspects, yes two days to learn how to handle 44 tonnes and 65 ft of vehicle, and they wonder why the accident rate has escalated!!The question is, how do you stop it all. The police aren't interested unless there's an accident and even then only if there's injury or the road is blocked. The police just quote that speed is the problem. It isn't speed but bad driving with inappropriate use of speed. That and just plain moronic driving. Everybody had to be there yesterday. People being forced to drive further and further to work. Companies allowed to close offices and factories forcing cost and inconvenience on to the individual and state. Come the glorious revolution.......
How can you know your drivers behave after you have got out the cab? Impossible isn't it.
When drivers get prosecuted they get let off because they will lose their livelihood. Sorry - should think about that in the drivers seat not later in court. Putting a few on the dole queue is well worth the price of saving others.
