Interesting article in Straight Six this month. Some or many may be aware but "The Public Order Act of 1986 part 2 section 11" makes particular reference to "convoys". It states that more than two vehicles travelling under the same intent are classified as forming a convoy. Unless certain measures are taken prior to the convoy forming, it could be classed as illegal in the eyes of the law.

The Act also states that any proposed or potential convoy must be reported to the police, giving at least six days notice before the due date of departure. It also states that they must be informed of the location where the convoy starts, the route it is taking and where it will finally end up. If the route crosses boarder (England/Scotland/Wales) the police forces of both countries need to be informed. The responsibility for providing this information lies with organiser of the event. He or she is deemed to be in charge of the convoy.

Every day is a school day. Happy and safe cruising peeps. In the unlikely event that a member of the convoy is caught speeding by the police whilst in convoy, the organiser is liable ....... apparently :confused:

To the letter of the law this is correct, If you are organising a big charity event or something of that nature then you would probably be wise to contact the boys in blue. However... if you just meet up somewhere to drive to an event or go out for a drive you always have deniability on your side. If you get stopped you need to state that you don't know any of the other people driving near your car... it just so happens that 10 identical makes of car are driving down the road at the same time. I'm pretty sure at worst they would just have to split you up. They can't 'prove' you are driving in convoy it's kind of subjective. I used to ride my bike 2 abreast and 10 bikes long when going out to events and meets and never got stopped.

Agreed mate and that's what I'd do, just depends on how officious PC Plod wanted to be I suppose.

That's my sort of party when's the next one
May next year. They had about 40 or more that paid, you get lunch etc, but so many people know about it that cars just tag along. They know the ones that have paid though, as you get a number on your car.
If the Police stopped you, you would not be able to say that you did not know any of the other cars...;)

That could be a good bit of fun.. Will we have to book in advance to make sure we get a few cases of good wine ?

Thinking of that and selling for charity on our return..

Pokerok.
