Does anyone know for certain which code reader will work on an early (Apr 97) M44 Z3 please? It's OBD One, OBD 2 readers don't work IME.

Have developed a hot start issue and obviously would like to read the codes as a starting point.
Cheers,
Ian

OBD2 should be OK on an 2001 Z3.
Think the Creator is favoured by many for OBD2 cars. Doubt whether Argos sell them!

As far as I remember the early cars could be read using BMW INPA software on an old style laptop with a dedicated serial port, they cant use usb cables. Your car probably only has the round Pacman diagnostic socket in the engine bay, later Obd2 cars had the Pacman socket and a 16pin OBD2 socket under the steering wheel. If you do a search on here you should find more info on Obd1 code reading.

The Engine DME and Auto transmission EGS are OBD2 on your car. All the other modules are OBD1.

As you have a hot start issue, you should find that an OBD2 scanner is all you need.
