My s***'s custom!
It's no secret that I like to keep my zed looking pretty (much like a lady and her face). To do so takes lots of time and chemicals (much like a lady and her face!). I get lots of questions at shows and events on what methods I use so I decided to create this thread. Obviously there are loads of different products and techniques but this is what I have found works well through trial and error.....

Before (and yes I know it's not that dirty but but I'm a perfectionist):

It's the fanciest fly swat I've ever owned:

To start I apply snowfoam straight to the car whilst dry to help it cling. I've tried many but my favorite is Bilt Hamber:

Next is the 2 bucket wash. I like to dilute Mer ultimate polish as my detergent as it cleans very well and is gentle. I've got colour coded microfibre cleaning pads too. This one is only for body work on the zed:

Wheels next. I use a two bucket wash again with a (wheels only) cleaning pad and some fancy tools to reach to the back:

Next it's a rinse and then clay bar. I use a Maguirs bar. The trick is to keep it lubricated. As I was using it on a wet car I used a Britemax detailer spray neat as it diluted on the car. If the car is dry I dilute it in a spray bottle (1 part detailer - 2 parts water). U just do small areas at a time and wipe immediately as I go to dry the car lift the excess detailer spray:

Once dry it's polish time. I like this polish as it's easy to use by hand. I won't get into the technical properties and it's one of about 6 different polishes I have but this one is good. Be aware though, if using it on a hot day like I am, you will get through more product as it dries quickly on the warm surface. Apllying more also means working harder to get it off afterwards too:

Once the polish is removed it's time to wax. I love this wax as its really easy to apply and remove at any temperature. Just apply with a pad, leave about 20 mins until it goes hazy, then remove with a new microfibre cloth:

After that you need to leave 4 hours before applying a second coat. I ran out of time so my second coat will have to wait until tomorrow.

For now though, here's where we are:

Nice write up Mac. Thanks.

Excellent write up fella.... recognise the products that you are using and use some of them myself.

I am assuming you are a member on this website: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/index.php
if not then you should be.... I recommend this site to anyone who likes a nice shiny car....
I know I have learnt loads from that site.... like I am hoping to on this site.... and maybe the mods wont like me saying but .... its probably "the" best site for detailing ....

Coming back to your thread.... have you tried any glazes as well as the aio product....???
Autosmart's cherry glaze goes well with that wax....
oh and be careful of marring when it comes to using that make of clay.... its not the softest "if" your using it on more than a once a year basis....
sure your up to speed with the above... car looks brilliant by the way.... top draw....

Thank you very much. I've never tried a glaze over the wax before. I'll have to look into that. The clay bar only gets used twice a year. Once before the hardtop goes on about this time of year (hence my busy day!) and then again when it comes off around march. I find it works quite well if used on a warm day and I work it well with my hands before and also gotta use plenty of lubricant to prevent marring.
I've been told a few times about detailing world but heard stories of opinionated criticism regardless of what you do and I'm a sod for fighting my corner! I like sharing and receiving tips and ideas though. I'll have another look and see if I can play nicely! Haha

I have cherry glaze so don't buy any mate, but strictly speaking I think it should be glaze or wax no point in both IMHO.

Im sure you will be fine over on DW.... there is a guy on there called okcharlie and he does some amazing work.... drags back real skips to looking like show cars.... he only uses one brand of products.... Autosmart.... but like many things.... its not what you use its how you use it that counts..... have a look over at some of his work and you will see a trend.... and its one that anyone who likes to maintain his car keeping that showroom look can achieve........ your fine with twice a year on the clay ..... its mainly marring that is the issue with it...even when using plenty of lube.... I would never not use a wax.... as its a wax that gives the paint its protection from all the nasties..... but by using a glaze as well you can get that "wet look" that so many aspire to.... it really is a fine art and once you dip your toe in.....make sure your wallet can stand it.....

Sounds right process only I do wheels before washing body in case the dust dirty splashes the Clean body work.
Clay, Polish or Pre Cleanser, you can glaze before topping off with Wax if using a sealant I would use a IPA wipe down first.
P's Don't forget grit guard in your bucket.
Cheers.
Cliff.

Dont mind at all, been a member on there since 2011. Never posted but certainly got some useful info over the years

Top work - and it shows on the car - just enjoy - sit and watch for a few hours!:thumbsup:

Mac... I somehow got tied up in product posts last night which was not entirely appropriate given your OP, I apologise and just want to say your car looks great so you must be doing something right x

I've gave my car a quick wash and dry tonight, if not used should I be ok to go straight on with the wax on Thursday night/ Friday morning?
