Her 3rd Freelander Dave? I wouldn't buy her another one if she keeps breaking them ..............

Just newer each time. Bits fall off, I put them back on it they just keep going. They have looked after her well in the main. Put a fuel pump on earlier this year and ordered a battery for it today. Not worth getting her anything to better until she's done with horses as she trashes them.

My old 1955 2CV as a student in the 60s was a great little car, you could repair it with a Swiss army knife. It also had an automatic sun roof,( you automatically rolled it back in the sunshine) , and central locking, (you could reach all the door locks from the driver's seat.) But no, I wouldn't have any French car now.

I’ve had three french cars, including a Citroen. All of them were bought new and proved to be more trouble than they were worth. I’ll never have another. That’s a shame as I particularly like the styling of modern Citoen’s but there’s a reason why they are usually sold at huge discounts from list price - it’s because the general material and build quality is c***. One example would be the lovely satin chrome effect on the door handles of one model that peeled off in the first year to reveal the white plastic underneath.

On the Citroen I was quite alarmed when one day a warning came up on the info screen “Brake Fault”. I immediately took it to the main dealer from where I’d purchased it for investigation. Later that day they declared they had inspected and tested the entire braking system and it was OK. The warning had gone but reappeared twice more in the next couple of weeks and after further investigation by the dealer and nothing being found to be amiss, they gave me the following advice.... “it’s French mate, just ignore it”

The car was well spec’d but everything was so flaky, for example the auto wipers which reacted to rain as you would expect but failed to turn off when the rain stopped, or the auto lights that came on but wouldn’t go off again until the engine was stopped.... I could go on

I have a 2009 peugeot partner 1.6 hdi ,110 bhp, I've done nearly 90k without one single problem, I think some times it's just luck,or bad luck which some times you get, it's been far more reliable than my old Mercedes w211 e320 CDi which loved a trip to garage every other month.

I had a Clio MK2 1.4 16v facelift and it was......













Bloody good fun and strangely reliable!
It did blow a gearbox but that ....might.... have been operator error...
They seem to be the Renault that lasts, the bigger ones disappear from the roads it seems (probably scrapped due to cost of changing headlight bulbs or something silly)

I have a 13 plate Berlingo van for work, van is nice enough but it does blow lamps all to quickly the worst being brake lights. It's a very rare occasion where all my lights are working.

Yes, I've bought quite a few of those, the dealer who I bought for loved them because they were not in the guide books so could mark them up how he liked, he doubled his money on most of them.

They don't like being sat still, let the battery go flat and they go wobbly, bit like a Range Rover.

Nice to drive but very odd interiors, I never wanted to own one personally.

The Avantime was a good one, sure to be a classic now as there's so few of them.

Any car can have any problem.

I've just given my volvo v40 back with 105,000 miles over 5 years and I didn't have a single problem with the engine at any point.

Oh and BTW, it's a 1.6 Psa diesel

Have you had a towbar fitted?

I haven't heard that as a common problem.

My proper shed is a Partner 1.4cc 2004 and it's been great, 4 years of ownership and only about £150 in repairs that weren't service items.

No tow bar ever fitted , the firm has several berlingos and they all do it. Next time you follow a Berlingo in the traffic count how many brake lights are working.

Ive just handed back my C4 Picasso 1.6 Diesel (2016) to the lease co. 10K faultless miles, interior trim is a bit flimsy but i knew that when i chose it.

TBH the Citroen was more reliable than my wife's Mini 5 door MINI....2 years old (19K) and repair bills of over 5.5K - just glad it was covered by warranty

French cars are renowned for electrical problems, from the Renault Megane, electric window and bulbs going
and Clio brake lights flash when the indicators should be going, or the brake lights randomly flicker while driving.
