Exactly... My cable worked on both cars ya days connected fine but is now being an arse... I'll be having another go though before I buy anything else... The carly obd cable can't be any different to any other... A snap-on diagnostic machine works on many cars all with the same cable

Thought the USB adaptor did all models? Strange if it wont. I'd contact Carly and ask

I bought a carly cable. I don't think it is the same as other cables. I think the software checks the cable first.
Mine works fine on the E85 with my android phone.
Pete, how much was your Carly cable? I'm on Android and sounds like a good buy to me. Do you have a link please?

Thanks,

Tony.

here is the link Tony:

http://www.ivini-tech.de/en/adapter/android-bmw/android-usb-package-for-bmw/a-1007/

Its 30 Euros + postage
but don't forget the app itself is about £40 to be able to code with (the free version wont).. so it's not cheap..

I got both app and cable and have done numerous things on the missus's e85 Z4
coded roof up and down from key
drivers window open on two clicks (comfort opening)
donut brake lights
Beep on locking
Drive off locking of doors

@ A.Gammon Did you manage to sort your problem out? I have a Carly but I'm using an iPad. When I first tried it I had a few problems and it turned out to be low voltage. If you give the car a run out for a few miles to get the battery level up it could help. But, in saying that, if it is a connection problem then all the above advice is relevant. Hope you get it sorted.
Colin.
