What?!?You would find several in the garden at my parents old place and the field next door.
Tony.
That sounds like it was a lot of fun. So when they were eventually scrap, they were buried? When we were kids we were given or scrounged cars that were fit for scrap. We ran them round local fields until they expired and dug a hole and pushed them in. Hillman Californian, Austin Devon and Ford Anglia plus others.

I don’t know. Does anyone know?Possibly from when the homes were built. An abandoned car - what are builders going to do about it? They won’t pay to get it removed when in thirty minutes they can bury it.
That makes sense.Only option available to a bunch of school kids. Sometimes there were Gypsies in the village who would come and cut them up with oxy/acetyline gear but no one wanted to do that as they would return later and lift anything that wasn't fastened down, so shovels were the usual answer.

Why did your Uncles bury their cars? Is this a secret tradition I know nothing about?!?My Dad and uncle bought a brand new Ford Pop when they worked for Ford in Doncaster. Uncle ended up with car so 1 owner from new ended up buried in his back garden. Another uncle had Ford Consuls and always had a couple of parts cars in the back yard buried when all usable bits removed.
They sound colourful chaps. Sounds like they bring back fond memories for you.Never really asked, both had big gardens suppose it was easier than getting someone to take them away. Sadly both no longer with us so will probably never know. Will ask my dad if he can throw any light on it. I do know they were both characters that i enjoyed spending time with as a kid.
