Bonnet paint issue

Any idea what could've caused this. Was like it when I bought it but cracks appear to be widening. Has had a previous front end spray. Prob gonna need full paint job to match. Considering a wrap?

I would think balance of probability a poor quality paint job. From applying or mixing the paint incorrectly.

Even if you are wrapping, that area would need to be cleaned up to put the wrap over.
 
Ye that's what I thought, poor quality. Cousin owns wrap co. Has advised its do-able. Not sure whether to respray or wrap pro all down to cost
 
A bonnet respray could be anywhere from £500 to £1,000. Bonnets are difficult things to prepare anyway and Z3s have just about the biggest bonnet around. Plus I would think that will need a lot more work than the average bonnet. It's possible the whole bonnet may need to be taken back to bare metal.
 
I had the same issue with a previous Zed. It’s most likely a bad base coat that has reacted with the paint. Only way to sort it is taking it back to metal (lot of work).
I also think that a wrap would still slightly show the depreciations of the cracking once it’s been in the sun for a year.

I would suggest getting a good second hand bonnet and getting it painted.
 
May be cheaper to look for a second hand bonnet in the same colour is it Topaz?

Think it might be Boston Green.

I have a black bonnet here I can let go cheaply if it helps at all. It might save going back to bare metal.
 
Different types of paints can react with each other. One of the ships I deal with was painted with one chemical type and then at a dry dock painted with another. I created a magical crazy painting down the side similarly to what you have but on a much larger scale. Only way we got rid of it was to fully blast it back to bare metal years later and paint it again.

You got rid of a dazzle paint scheme by mistake!
 
Normally due to putting coats on to thick and not enough flush time for each coat to cure off before next coat applied.Over time the paint layers seprerate and craze.

Hi Thanks for advice, what sort of money you looking for? prob be too dear too far for delivery? pity you weren't closer

hi thanks for the advice. looking for a bonnet now not a lot around Scotland atm unfortunately
 
You have all sorts of issues going on there, the main one being that it has had low end top coat in the past, cheap top coats generally dont have UV protection and break down over time.
