Thank you.

I guess I need to find someone locally that can take this sort of info and is confident they can apply it. I can’t personally and am not sure I have found a garage that knows how to get the car from where it is to a solution.

Its the vin lock that will become your issue you cant put another module ( even with same part number) and make it plug and play the only proper blank module is a new one but they are scary dear and need coded by dealership
I have wanted to retro fit a passengers airbag but even if i buy the bag and module for twin bag i cant find anyone who can code it to work and get past the vin lock.
Your best best as has been said is get your module out and posted to one of the companies who can repair the module you have then all you need to to is refit it.
Stephen.

Thank you Stephen. I understand. Do you know / can you recommend a company that can do this type of repair?

Thank you. All help welcome…

i have had the car for 25 years…There are lots of (practical) reasons not to keep it going…ULEZ, airbag light, costs and now no MOT etc….Yet I am attached to the car and desperate to keep it alive, if I can. 🤞

All sounds familiar. I had mine checked out and it was the module as there was nothing else wrong , I was offered a second hand one by one of our resident parts supplier but was still going to have all the same issues as have been pointed out above. As I was getting close to one of our group runs I decided to buy a new one knowing that that would be good for years. I did try a company which was passed onto me by one of the guys on here but they were not taking any more on at the time and it was a swap setup and you still had to get it coded properly. Cant find there name sorry. It was explained to me that these modules store every fault that passes through them and has a limit at which point you cannot get rid of the light . Hope you get it sorted.

Just looked up my receipt from BMW ,I paid £874.19 +vat and got £156,22 back as an exchange unit and that was in 2019. So the prices have more than doubled since then.

Yes Billy... Not sure how they can justify £1800 (‘surge pricing’).

…Even the parts department of my local main dealer was v apologetic when quoting the price…And there are several hundred new units available sitting in Germany.

I have managed to get a used Airbag ECU (same serial number) from EBay but my local garage says “the ‘new’ ECU isn’t communicating at all whereas the old one was…and this means the ECU is no good”. I informed the supplier I would be returning the ECU (which I haven’t yet done because he has suggested it is tested and he’s asked if the garage have used BMW ISTA software”. Any thoughts / advice?
