Too cheap!

There's a low mileage Estoril M Roadster for sale near me, and it's priced at £20k. Hasn't sold, or had much interest, although I'd have it!

My theory is if you've got that sort of money to spend on an old classic, then you'll probably want the best you can get, so why not spend an extra £5k or more where the upper end of the market seems to be...
However, if you want a bargain, it's way too expensive, so it's stuck in no mans land.

Is yours the same?

At £5k, it's neither a bargain (to the uneducated) or priced at a premium, so where's your market?

Also, not that it would bother me but to someone who doesn't know these cars inside out, the ad suggests it's quite modified and the splitter is a matter of taste (although again it's  from me).

How's about you remove the splitter, take some better pics (that don't suggest it's always in the petrol station...lol) and put it back on priced a grand or two higher, downplaying the upgrades as a recent restoration...

If you get a viewer, you then get to tell the story of the upgrades, and get them all excited about finding the best M50'd proper widebody on the market.

You can always let them haggle down to your original £5k and they be driving away thinking they've got deal of the year.

Why not be the most expensive? Someone has to be!

Hi Aaron, thank you for the really constructive advice, it is greatly appreciated!

i'm going to remove the splitter and put it back on the standard wheels so it looks more stock.

i agree around the pricing too, its kind of in a bit of limbo and i'm off this weekend to take some proper photos of it.

i think i will relist it in a couple of weeks when all the work is done. i'm in no rush to sell it but also keen for someone to come grab a great car

For what it's worth, when looking for a car I place originality as an essential priority and seek all factory options. Don't think I am alone with this viewpoint. May well be worth considering preparing the car in this way for this market and sell the "modified" bits separately. Just trying to be helpful!

Well I will address the elephant in the room here.

The last photo's seem to show that there is quite a shade difference in the bonnet to both front wings and front bumper, and then also the passenger door to the front and rear wings.
If I were a buyer, at £5k or even £4K, personally, that would put me off even phoning..
If that is not the case, then you need to take photo's in different light, because the petrol station one's don't seem to show up as much. Also need some shots of the sports seats as well.

The car has been well maintained, but I don't think people will pay extra for that as they think it's classed as part and parcel of running a car.
I appreciate the cost of these things and not having the hassle of having to do the jobs, but a lot of people would rather hold onto the cash instead and not pay for it up front.

The modifications to the suspension and performance limit the number of buyers even further, and they are probably mostly on here having done similar and not in the market for a different car.

I think you will be taking a hit, other than returning to standard and selling the parts on.
Getting someone there in the first place is the hard bit and I think those photos and pricing, are preventing that.

A great buy for someone on here that recognises the pricing reflects what has been done, but maybe no-one on here is looking at the moment.
General public wont be as bothered I don't think.

Just my thoughts.

thanks for the feedback, lot of good points

there is no chance of me returning the car back to stock as i don't have the time, parts or inclination

and i'm not looking to 'make' any profit on the car per se as i know you never get back what you put in

completely agree that the pictures aren't the greatest. hopefully this weekend will sort that out after i've put it back on the standard wheels
