Mr Scalex has mentioned he uses BMW Scanner Diagnostics in a couple of threads so I decided to give it a try.
Purchased via ebay at £14.95 you get the interface, cable and CD disc to load the programme onto a Laptop.
Loaded the software and the driver onto my spare laptop I use for diagnostics, it runs Win7.

Loaded up ok and went exploring, its less clunky than INPA and reads the car identification and most of the modules for engine and airbags, will list the keys and other stuff. Reads and clears codes with ease.Had a play with the Instrument cluster by running the instrument test within the programme and watched it test all the dials and warning lights, same as using the hidden built in test function but without having to mess about getting into the menu and selecting the test using the speedo reset button.

It can do a lot more, I need to read the blurb that came with the kit and have another play with it.
Seller I used was ez-office-supplies who is based in South Wales UK and not far from me, delivery was very fast.

I think I will get this just to have a play - did you have any issues making it work? when I installed INPA and DIS it cost me a full weekend of fiddling with drivers and virtual machines until I made this work and I am pretty handy with computers.

It's a walk in the park compared to INPA. Which is one of the reasons I like it so much.

I originally bought mine for use on my brother-in-law's E46. Out of curiosity I tried it on a Z3, it worked perfectly and I've never looked back.

I don’t know. Some of the earlier cars can be more fussy with diagnostics.

My cars are facelift. My brother’s is pre but I’ve never tried it on that and it’s a late pre anyway.

I bought this for my 2.8 prefacelift and its very restricted and will only read a few modules, it won't do ABS or cluster

Worked ok on my 1999 1.9 Z3 and used it today on mates E46 325ti all ok.
As to install, it was easy, just follow the instructions on how to install and choose the right driver, no problems like INPA gave me.

Beginning to think I might go for this instead of INPA.

Tony.

Yep, M43 Facelift 12/1999, worked ok on it.
I see you are down West of me, if your up this way or I'm down your way could arrange a meet and plug it in to see if it works on yours.

There's nothing that I haven't been able to do with inpa but getting it to work it's quite fiddly even with instructions and forums, had to get an old ish computer and use virtual machines on vmware and lot of trial and error, to this day I have no idea what I did to make it work in the end hence I have made two security copies of the hard drive and made a clone of that laptop ;)

Yes that would be good , my zed is a bit poorly at the moment (abs) that's the reason for the interest in the diagnostics

I will run it on mine to see what it can do with the ABS module and let you know

@Bampz if your car is a late pre facelift with twin vanos there's a good chance it will work. If it's single vanos then it most likely wont work.
