On a serious note thought i believe i have Gaz's zed in after Panthers gone.
And again this is a hobbie for me so i dont charge labour its only parts. (P.S i have trade accounts with all the dealers)

@Lee, there should be more people like you in this world! Thank you. I do the same, had done some work on a friend's car and when she asked what she owed me for labour I told her nothing and that my time and labour are the only thing I have control over in life so choose to do good instead of evil with them. JIM
It's real shame ( yes I do mean this ) that you are all so far away as would be happy to offer help with some of these repairs too.

Great read! I am so pleased @GazHyde mentioned the thread was running I look forward to he next instalment and Won't mention the potential lead I fed on to Gaz. I just hope I can get my car up to scratch before next year's season. (Body work due to a few dent's, Say no more) By the way reading the Comments on the Seat Bush Day if any members of th [USERGROUP=16]@West Country[/USERGROUP] group fancy holding a Westcountry Seat Bush day contact me and I will run one having attended Lee's I would be honoured to pass on the ease with which this can be done and I have a few to do!

So as of 9:30 GMT last night we completed panther to %99.9.
She's just waiting on the arrival of her new badge set.

It's time to start putting some of information on what we have done to the car so far. This will not be chronological 3-4 of us were working on the car, and doing different jobs at different times. I've tried to group the updates in to specifics, this post is about the braking system!
The Braking System
When I arrived at Lees garage for the first time, I found him rolling around on the floor having started without us!
The first priority was to get the brakes stripped down. They weren't particularly effective, and pulled badly when the brake pedal was pushed. Looking at this photo of one of the rear brakes, you can see exactly where the problems were coming from. The front discs and pads were better condition, but still needed changing.
All the discs, pads and brake shoes were removed so they could be replaced. Paul (@pgunter) got his hands dirty too - the first time he has played with brakes for a few years!
Once everything was stripped down ready to be replaced with shiny new discs, Lee wanted to make sure it all looked nice underneath. Out with the wire brush and the calipers & rattle clips were given a quick spray over.
After the years of crud and corrosion was removed.

One of the problems of wearing gloves while working is sometimes you are left with a tide mark at the end of the evening...
Finally we are ready to start rebuilding the brakes. Lee got stuck straight in to it, or possibly he was having forty winks
Even Lee needs to RTFM occasionally
New handbrake shoes fitted (I had a spare set which didn't get used on Rosie, so donated them to the cause).
A completed front brake disc and pad - oooh it's sooo shiny
Bleeding brakes! I hate bleeding brakes... so Lee did it! Used one of the pressure fed systems take connects to a road wheel, then just a case of letting the bleed nipple expel the bubbles! There was quite a bit of air in the system, and one of the rear bleed nipples was clogged.
Now Panther has brand new brakes all round, and after a test drive the difference was impressive!

The rear sub-frame & prop shaft bush (Guibo)
Like most Z3's the prop shaft coupling bush was starting to perish, not enough to really merit changing yet but Lee happened to have one from a previous project. We were also going to look at dropping the rear subframe out of the car and replace bushes as needed.
The car didn't handle badly at all and felt solid in the corners, but as we had it up on axle stands it seemed worthwhile to do them anyway. The initial step is to remove the exhaust so that you can get to the all important fixings. However we hit an issue that Lee had not seen before, in that we couldn't unbolt the exhaust due to corrosion and a style of fixing he hadn't seen on the previous Z3's he'd taken exhausts off.
We all had a look under the car and were pretty much stuck at this point. It would most like have been possible to do what we were doing on a proper lift, but on axle stands near to impossible!
Instead a visual inspection was carried out, and we would plan to do the work later on next year once the bolt could be removed at an exhaust centre. This is the best picture we could take at the time. A previous garage had already replaced two of the bolts, but left the worst accessible two to us
Engine Service - oil change, spark plugs and filters.
It had been a while since Panther had an oil service, so seemed sensible to perform one while we had the car.
Trevor was sent down to take out the sump plug to let the old oil drain. He stayed down there the whole time it was draining, so pretty sure he was getting forty winks too (like father, like son)!
Up at the business end of the engine, Paul carried out the complicated air filter change
I got on with removing the engine covers, and started changing the plugs. After doing the first couple I got bored and made Paul finish them off! Here you can see him removing a coil pack.
This is a side by side comparison of old vs. new spark plug. No real concerns here, nothing to see, move along!
Old oil filter removed, icky and deformed. Definitely past its best.
The oil was then filled with Carlube Triple R 5W40 oil.
I've posted this video before of the old oil, but in the interests of keeping everything together this is what the old oil looked like.

Same jobs as we all do but mine took me 2 years.
PS should have resealed the calipers whilst they were apart.

We did think about rebuilding the seals, but once all the crud was removed they looked in good condition!
