Bigger Second Toy

Well today was the day for the install and luckily the weather gods were in my favour ( no Lime Green Mankini’s in sight @andyglym =))).

So started at 10am and finished at 4pm. Needless to say I took my time and had a great time pulling the M3 interior to pieces. Again my OCD came into effect and the label maker and fabric tape were in full use today.

And now the progress photos. First the centre console had to cone out and the red leather armrest, USB port and cables had to be swapped over:

Fortunately the new centre console had a vent cooled dink holder (great for my travel chocolates :angelic:)

Next was the more daunting task of the dash removal. Slow and steady was the pace of the day, to label connectors, tape up wires and carefully mind not to scratch the new leather.

You got through a lot of work their Jim, well done mate

Thanks, I do love an extended leather interior and I’ve put them in both my Zeds as well.

Must admit I was quite worried about a full dash removal on a rather expensive M3. Luckily all went well and really happy with how the leather turned out

The extended leather interiors in my Zeds do have a fair amount of leather shrinkage on the driver binnacle and passenger airbag cover. Luckily I’ve found a good leather upholstery company near who is able to replace the shrunken leather parts. They will just need to be recoloured - think I can manage that. I have managed to source another extended leather interior (with the same issues) in red. So I’m going to fully refurbish this set and then swap it over into my Silver Z3 with red leather interior. Then refurb & recolour that set and swap it over into my Blue Z3 with Beige leather interior. So at the end I will hopefully have a full set that I will then be able to sell on in whatever colour is needed.

I had no idea black could become red! Looks a good match from the pics @Jjim - a great job done a Saturday well spent.

Excellent job done there James, well done sir:thumbsup:

Well that’s most of the work done on the M3..... for now

Next up for the Blue Z3 is a rear beam refresh.

Next up for the X5 is a complete interior swap - dash, console, seats, door cards and lots of Tim bits.

I like a quiet life these days mate. The worst bit about ripping a (modern) car apart like that is trying evreything afterwards to make sure it all works.=))=))

Tony.

It’s that or watch Love Island with the misses!

I know, loads of buttons and functions. Just one nipped wire sends everything crazy. Things that you wouldn’t even think are connected.
