heres a few pics of my grotty beige leather steering wheel soon to be restored.... i keep you all posted on my progress...

I've got the same wheel on mine, but fortunately for me, although it could do with tidying up a bit, it doesn't look quite as bad as yours.

I quite like the beige colour and intend to keep it but I like the Royal steering wheel refurbs. Haven't seen a beige one though

yeah the wheel is in pretty bad shape... i knew this when i bought the car and accounted for the work that needs to be done... anyway, i have been driving the car with a wheel cover for a few months until i decide to go about restoring it.... I have managed to get a Black temporary m sport wheel with airbag so i can progress with the refurb.. the beige wheel is now off, and has been cleaned with various cleaners, and sprays but nothing will shift the grott that has built up so i have dry sanded off the leather coating and used acetone to remove as much of the grot and leather colour as possible that was a few weeks ago, and i have been on holiday so the wheel has sat upstairs breathing adn drying out and looks loads better already...

Once you've got the old paint and old grease contaminants off the leather it should take the new fresh colourant really well.

Good luck, I'll keep an eye on this

Looks brilliant, well done that man:thumbsup:

Wow, what a massive difference, looks like you have done a cracking job, I am hoping to do mine blue next weeks, what size is the centre nut.

Now then, I really like that but mines black at the moment. I have plenty of beige seat dye left. Are we thinking it would take OK?? Calling dye guru @Antm72!

I was going to say the difference is night and day - and then you go and do night and day! Spooky! :)
Massive improvement. Shows what can be done with the right skills.

The dye is designed to be used in this way so i don't see why not.
Its something obviously handled alot so time would tell on its wear characteristics but you can just redo it if it becomes poor..

believe it was 16mm the centre nut, also need t27, and t20 security torx bits to remove the airbag... i just kept the socket on my T bar so didnt really note the size as i was using it from a few weeks ago...

i used cellulose paint as recommended by a local classic car restorer that has done numerous car wheel refurbs got a 500ml can mixed up to match for tenner..

silly me.....

We have been using cellulose paint on a vinyl interior as it melts into it, not sure about leather though. Be interesting to see how it wears.

it certainly sinks in to the material, I not sure whether the wheel is actually leather it looks more like a thick vinyl, i could be wrong though....

Is there any procedure for removing the airbag so I don't blow my face off!

Lots of advice on the net. Basically disconnect your battery and wait a few minutes before disconnecting the air bag.
