I think these are a rare sight on UK roads because in the two years since their launch they just haven’t sold well. FIAT recently dropped the model from their range although it remains available under the Abarth brand. Pundits criticised its higher price compared to the MX5 which, apart from the engine is essentially the same car, and some say FIAT’s decision was due to its ageing 1.4 MultiAir Turbocharged 4-Cylinder engine not being able to meet the new stricter WLPT emission regulations, as Fiat Chrysler recently dropped this engine from the Alfa Rome Giulietta and Jeep Renegade. Maybe it’s rarity might help with future prices, give or take 30 years ;)

Love the 124 over the MX5. Yes it's the same car in essence but the styling is much nicer but if I'm honest I prefer the look of the standard car over the Arbarth. The red mirrors and black boot are a bit radical for me.

I was wondering about the red bits, they might get changed if I get one.

I love the MX5's, such great cars for the money, but I like rare cars so I guess that's why the Abarth appeals.

Yeah I get that, the MX5 is an MX5, the spider does make you look and I really don't like the rear end of the MX5.

I'd rather have the Alfa Spider, but not at the expense of my Zed

Interesting discussion with friends today over lunch, most of them petrolheads.

Them saying "why one of those?"

Recent years I've had some very powerful modern cars, full of tech I didn't use, or want really.

My last toy was actually frustrating, you really had to change drive mode before an overtake, then which one?

Plus I never remembered all the settings, modes, ways through the systems.

When I got into my Z it was a breath of fresh air, refreshingly simple, just get in and enjoy.

So I think the new MX5 and the Abarth are the closest new cars to the simple formula of our Z's.

Aerial Atom keeps crossing my mind, but the thought of having an accident in one has always put me off.

So to conclude, today has convinced me even more that I'm looking at the right car if one has to replace the Z3.

A BBR conversion to a newish MX5 looks pretty decent also.

Having been watching prices of the Abarths in the last few weeks it's clear they're still not selling quickly even at £21,000 with next to no miles. That may change next month I guess when we get some sunshine.

Have you seen how much a Fiat X19 commands now so maybe worth a bit in the future.
Probably demand so much money to compensate for the garage and coach works invoices over the years to get it through an MOT :nailbiting: lol

I used to have a lancia Monte Carlo it was about 5 yrs old when I owned it and I had to have the rear arches done and the rear crossmember cracked and I had it welded up only to be told it had already been done once.

Whilst I like the 124 those side by side pics make you see how nice a Z is

If you fancy some up to date changes why not give the Z a freshly covered alcantara interior and a quality exhaust with an electric valve and you’ll have a far better sound that a turbo 4 pot can give.
Oh and you can get yellow bilsteins in Z fitment too...

Plenty of BBR conversions on here;

I'm amazed the they found something to weld to at the 2nd time of asking mate, going on my experiences with Italian cars back in the day, especially a Lancia Desolva.;)

Such a shame because around then the Italians made some lovely cars. I loved the AlfaSud, the Delta even the Fiat 127 was a great little car.

I had a the following Fiats (a long time ago)
131 Mirafiori
127
Strada 105TC
Regatta
Uno
Lancia Delta

Great to drive and great engines, although nearly every one blew a head gasket,
Rust, though, was something else.

In fact, I still have all of them in the back of the garage, ......... where I swept them to.
