The place I work at has quite a few people collecting there pensions and working full time, they can't be made to leave as this is agism, and they would be the last to be made redundant as the payoff is the largest.
I agree there are always going to be situations like that no matter what the age limit is. But it's a small percentage of people that would do that. They would have time to do things they've wanted to do like travel, buy a motor home, visit friends and family and see their grandchildren living fulfilling lives as they could now marry and raise a family which they can't do without a job. It's not a perfect plan by any means but it doesn't FORCEpeople who have paid their dues to work two more years. My union has a mandatory retirement age with an option of going on early retirement after so many years of completed service. JIM

And that makes far more sense Jim, apart from 1 small fact that the last Labour government in the UK and 1 Chancellor in particular robbed the pension funds for their own benefits. And that's why we're all going to have to keep working and at the same time keep young people out of work.:(

Yes, unfortunately they think they're above everyone and deserve whatever they can take. We've got some of our Senators on trial or charged with falsefying expenses. And it all comes back to our PM's office and we also have an election coming in Oct. I don't usually get to riled at individual politicians but this PM I a would quite happily pull the trigger on. How do we know he's lying? His lips are moving!! Canadapost is trying to reduce our pensions and the gov't has given a second deferment on pension contributions and the total owing is 14 BILLION to a corporation going broke. Now what idiots would back a plan like that except for our PM and his party that want to privatize our PO and sell it off to their rich buddies. JIM

Ken what you say is true but would it be fair to say that they are paying more tax than the newly employed that would take their job if they retired, I'm thinking full time pay plus drawing their pension would mean heavy taxation. (Government Win Situation) Even were they not drawing their pensions they will be eligible for a 9. something % increase for every 12mths of leaving it in up to a max of 60%, that's if you don't peg out before you get the chance to draw it, another G.W.S.(that applies to the state pension and would also include any civil service pension) looking at it this way you can see why some people still carry on working part or full time, 3% from the banks plus more tax makes it really hard to give up work at retirement age especially if you like your work and have good health, all this and I and my wife still gave up work to retire at retirement age from government jobs which became unbearable, even though I knew how much we could gain by working on. Retirement is still the best job I've ever had and would recommend it. (and we're still paying tax). Just trying to see it from both sides so to speak.

So was I when @oldcarman made the point of lowering the retirement age.
Anyway I like working with them because 1. They are nearer my age and can have a good natter with them, and 2. They are more reliable.
