ok so I was going through the process and takingdrivers side outer sill off to see how much rust had eaten into the inner sill, my trolley jack went right through the jacking point a few weeks ago.

look what I found , I didn't know zeds came with allotments.

Anyways good news is it's only rusted through a small patch which should be easily weldable

However I noticed water must have ingressed through to accelerator pedal mounting area making the metal soft ,again another patch will be required

Got me thinking though that this is not an obvious place visually for muck to build up and if z3 sills have been on a few years might be worth checking out. Just a thought

Anyway will endeavour at my own pace and maybe one day will get her back to an acceptable standard

Don't often see them worse than that, and from memory I've only seen one - although a borderline decision! Every Z3 owner should take a look behind their sills, if only to hook the dirt out.

Should be one of the first jobs when you get the car. If the car is driven all year at the start of autumn liners out and again at the end of winter.
I usually try and clean the liners once a month with the hose especially where they meet the outer wings, and bumper.

It's first on my winter list in November ,sills off rear quarters and front wings ,and rustproof where needed ,and drowned with waxoyl,in sad kinda way,I'm looking forward to winter.

O no ....... :p
Poor Z :(
Hope it gets fixed soon ;)
Good luck ;)

Ohh @stewartboy iff your throttle pedal areas not to good ,it may be worth having a look under your carpets, as sometimes door and window screen pillar rubbers wear and do let water in sometimes under those dry looking carpets, can be quite wet underneath, just take your time ,go at your own pace ,and hopefully soon you'll be back out driving her again, good luck with it .
Thanks
Jimmy.

That doesn't look pretty, hope you get it sorted.

I've arranged for someone to weld in a couple of weeks time, I've been busily taking loads more dirt from the inner sill front and rear chambers , good news is it's not as bad as I first feared.

Still rubbing and treating main sill and the in the main it's fine.

Checked drivers side , needs cleaned out but no rust damage to worry about there, she should be back on road end Sep if all goes to plan, rest of tub is fine too

I really must take mine off this winter, been meaning to do it for a few years now.

I can agree here, I took the carpet out of my parts car last night. Car was in great shape, no damp no rust or anything....
Carpets out to reveal an on board swimming pool. Who knew that was a factory option.

Th carpet holds so much water with all that sound deadening sponge built in.

You might be underestimating the size of the patch required. I can see up to maybe 12" of suspect metal.

Which would include the jacking point which looks suspect anyway.

I really would think about a donor section for that let in flush. Not just some flat sheet bashed into shape by the welder and patched over.

Anyone fancy cutting me a donor section ......Please

Happy to do it. But it's when. I'm on hols until 27 Aug. And I'm already up to my eyes in stuff. Could be well into Sep.

Alternatively come and remove it yourself :) Although Fife is admittedly a trek to Swindon :(

If you could do it for me would be appreciated greatly and I would reward you handsomely

My private jet currently getting serviced so travel to swindon is out

No problem doing it. As I say it's just when.

I would advise you finish removing the sill covers and arch liners to make a full assessment. In case there are other areas of rot causing you to rethink viability.

Had full assessment done of full car and both inner sills, passengers side back needs done but the other 2 corners just need treated. good news garage said the welding cost will be around £200 but I need to do the prep,

Guy checking it has several classic cars and said he thought she was worth saving

I was thinking over the weeken she might be a forlorn hope, but today am really happy , and hopefully I just might make zed fest next year

I love zeds

More crud to play with , this time front splash panel , disgusting mess, previous owners five years worth of oil leaks
