As Pingu has said I would be keen to get the donor car myself. Get someone to give it the once over and then let CCW do their thing. They would be happy to send pics once panels off but you could check out suspension components before. When I built my Kobra i had the coil overs, bushes new discs and pads replaced before starting the kit build.

I did build mine before CCW offered their service though (under supervision). The work to convert is not Very Hard but needs attention to detail and blooming time consuming. Especially at the last stages. They say the last 10% takes 90% of the time. It felt like that with mine.

Still love driving around in a car that is a 1 of 1 though 😀

You may want to rethink the wing mirrors. They give a very poor rear view, door mirrors are far superior.
I have wing mirrors on my old Jag and they are pretty much useless so I also have small overtaking mirrors on the doors. Ideally I would like two remove the wing mirrors and fit door mirrors but that will entail welding up the holes on the wings and getting them repainted.
If you as Chris for a little gel coat you will be able to fill any holes in and match the finish/colour perfectly.

How did you resolve the door opening?
(Not trying to derail thread also).

Hi S, did you finish your dash in the end without Grassbanks instruments?

I don't want to derail the thread, but I think that you are missing a trick by getting CC to supply the rolling chassis, unless you get to see it first. It is much better to know the rolling chassis is tip-top before the body is put on. Once the body is on, it ain't coming off in a hurry.

Knowing the guys at CCW I would get in touch with them to check that. They are pretty flexible with aspects of the build so don’t think that it is not possible.

If you do want to go down that route I would look at lead times for the kits (assuming you going 507?) from tribute and the current workstack at CCW. They are usually busy and have a build queue of customers. All can be done just a case of timing 😀

I am quite keen on getting something that looks different (well, old) with modern comforts. I've got my Triumph Spitfire all original, so not a big problem sacrificing a Z3. :D

I think there’s about half a dozen 507 kits now out there, two I think went to France.

Oooh do like the Spitfire. My step daughter is having one restored for her (slowly).

Looking forward to seeing some on the road. Will have to meet up with you at least when you ready. Us red Tributes need to stick together 😀

Well I’m told the bumpers and grill are now ready for collection so a 5 hour round trip to collect them tomorrow. Passenger door should be mounted by the end of the weekend, maybe drivers door too if time allows, and then it’s ready to go for mot.

I provided them with a chassis, and they put the body on. There are lots of things that they have done that are beyond me, or that I would be learning as I went. Body preparation and sourcing the correct parts, for example. There are also lots of things that they will do that you may wish to make a better job of, but that is down to your OCD level o_O .

It's worthwhile finding out what parts they won't need, as you can keep them and maybe sell them on.

It's a PITA trying to contact them, but perseverance pays off. WhatsApp is the best method.

I'm not sure you know what I mean. I think you are talking about the boot leaking - I don't mean that.

When it rains the rain may sit on the boot. When you open the boot lid, that water goes in the boot. It looks like your problem won't be as bad as mine, as your boot slopes and the rain may just slide off it.
I saw this on another thread and immediately thought of our little discussion about water on the boot lid falling into the boot.

At least it's not this bad (I hope) :3santas: ...

I used Chrome Spray in Basildon, but have since found ChromeFast in Essex and Prochrome in Derbyshire.
my turnaround time was nearly 4 months which wasn’t a problem on this occasion but I’d hope to find a quicker place next time I need parts painted.

A couple of bonnet upgrades. The air intake is wrap but will be changed to either Ali or Stainless steel later on. The streaks up the bonnet are stainless. I think the upper one is too long but will see how it looks once I get the car outside
