The Astra is looking a bit bubbly around the rear arch. Which has survived better?

In general I would say the Astra is the better car Brian but the old escort hasn't fared too badly. The Astra is a GTE and the Escort a basic 1600.

They are cars I would never even have considered buying when they were new, they were a pile of junk then...

My old Merc is 30 next year and could do with a bit of attention to her bodywork. There are a few scabs here and there, but overall she's not in bad nick really. She'll need to be MOT'd first week in May but I'm not expecting any bad surprises

You'd have thought the Escorts owner may have dropped a sponge on it before taking it for test. I know it doesn't make any difference in reality but you'd think a good impression would be a good start.

I think she's about 150 years old Dave.;) Hence 56,000 from new.

I've got a 26 year old Metro with just 1,810 miles on it from new! And a 33 year old Cavalier with 22,000 miles from new :)
How many cars do you Adrian! Let's face it, if the metro had done more than 1810 miles it would be dead and buried by now!

Got about 9 cars Dave!! Yes Metro's not the best built car, but a one lady owner from new, stood garaged for 14 years, was too good to pass up for the money - it's like new. The waxoyl type coating put on underneath when new has dried out totally and starting to fall off leaving clean paint visible on the underside. Both Metro and Cavalier are on their original tyres (no they're not on the road) A friend has just bought a Mk11 Ford Zodiac with 23, 000 miles from new
